I never questioned the TH part but I see no reason to be in rate mode as it will make no difference on spool up.

TM
I don't use rate mode at all - just that when in rate mode the tail pitch is centered, and that leads to a handy convenience of having the tail pitch centered just prior to spool up when switching from TH/Rate mode, and that way avoid the heli yaw as the RPM's pick up and tail gets authority, if there was a fair amount of tail pitch at the time.

No, not a necessity, just a personal preference and minuscule convenience.

My helis don't yaw on spool up and I run the gyros in HH mode all the time unless I'm actually trimming the tail. Never seen the machine yaw on spool up. I'm running Captron Helicommands and I must have missed this one.

I power up my heli's then walk to the flight line, and of course while carrying it in HH the tail pitch will inevitably run to max in one direction - with the GT5 I make a point of centering the tail pitch before spool up.

If you powered up on the flight line, then of course this step wouldn't be needed.

I think thats your problem. You need to get a better servo for the tail. There have been reports of the GT-5 doing what you describe with budget tail servos.

You probably just need to adjust the limits (step 15 in manual). Also, make sure you selected 1500 Type and 166 Frequency (step 4 in manual) for the DS610.

If you still have links popping off, you may need to get new link ends or adjust the linkage to get rid of any binding.

Mine actually does the same on start up. I use a DS650 and have all of the correct setting in the GT5. It doesnt pop the link but it does slam the servo over for a split second when turning on.

Does every bodies gt5 move the tail servo on startup??

I don't have anything like that going on on start up with a BLS254 and the Torq BL9188 was good too but I wanted that in my 700!

My tail pitch centers on power up.

i`ve solved my tail link popping by moving the ball on the tail servo arm in by one hole , i extended the a/b setting to make up for this , the servo still slides over on power up , but doesn`t now pop the link , looking forward to my weekend tests

My tail pitch centers on power up.
Mine ends up at the center but on initial power up it quickly moves the servo over and then centers it. Its the first movement that annoys me. Interesting to see it doesnt do it on a BLS servo as said above. Its like its the wrong pulse rate for a split second.

my settings at present , two flights today in blizzards

tail -------- swash
p=90 ------- p=70
i=50 -------- i=70
d-sense=0 --------- id=100
db=20 --------- d-sense=25
dma cyclic=60+ (not sure ) ------- feed 85
dma pitch=70+ (not sure) -------- i-lim=18
stop=0 -------- hover=3

agility - 100 on el
127 on aileron

all a/b settings on swash our 200

i`m not sure on the tail dma setting yet as i run out of batts

if i up the d-snse on the tail for a better , harder stop , it makes the heli wag hard
if i remove the tail dead band , that makes the heli tail wag

so 6 test flights now and she be the best

Mine also moves the tail servo to the extreme end on startup for a split second. It does not pop a link so it hasn't been a problem. I'm using the align DS650.

Mine goes from wherever it is at the time of power up, directly to the center - I have the Hitec 5084 servo on the tail of my 450 Pro.
