Main concern is DSM2. It is dodgy!
I am amazed. Six months ago DSM2 was bullet proof, and today it is doggy? Really? You can't win for losing on this forum.

Sorry about that, back to the main topic;

The price looks great. But after reading the manual, I do have more than a few questions. Some of the explanations of the functions are week. Like:recommend try default value first?

Bottom line: they need more than a two page PDF file in 4 point font to explain how this works.

On the other hand there is opportunity to write a GT5 for the average Joe manual.

You should be referring to DSMX as the bulletproof system that came out 6 months or so ago. DSM2 has always been problematic in saturated conditions like at a large fun fly.

NitroAl, I also have a DX8 - I'm not just Futaba. I got it after the DSM2 was replaced with the superior DSMX.

I find it funny that most people around here preferred DSM2 over futaba because it was not a hopping system like Futaba. Now Spektrum has finally seen the light and gone to a hopping system with DSMX.

So, now that we have establiched it doesn't work on DSMX, who is planning to use it? Who has used it?

I may get one just to see how it compares to the V-Bar and CGY750. Of course it would be most appropriate to use it on a Thunder Tiger heli. Which model would you use it on?

Just received mine
Nice package. Looks really easy to setup. I love the touch pad on the side. No more computer! I don't know whether to replace the vbar on my TDR or to wait for my Goblin. Hmm

Wait for your Goblin. That's what I'm going to do with mine. BTW, I got mine from TH with membership discount for $155. I really wish there was a built-in governor like on the CGY750 and V-Bar. I will use my GT5 with a Multigov Pro. If I don't like the GT5, it will be replace with a CGY750 or V-Bar. I've tried many FBL systems. The best right now IMO is the CGY750. However, it is a very complex system with so many user configurable parameters. It will confuse many FBL noobs, even some of us very familiar with FBL.

I have just flown 11 flights over the weekend here in OZ.

I have been flying a Logo600 Vbar for a while now and have just got my 1st 700E Heli, Did about 6 flights and had a vbar failure so thought I would try something else, So I got a GT5
I set mine up with the recommended settings that come for the E720 but found them to be very slow so basically I have just increased the roll pitch and Collective and now it's an Animal!!!

Flys very stable and Crisp, Rotorhead has no wobble at all during pyro's. And the tail holds perfect during piro moves and Fast backwards flight...Rock solid!

Very Happy with it so far..

Nothing like competition to bring prices down. Subscribed.

So...no governor. Is collective management a phrase of the past?

Wondering now how it will perform on a gasser...

I've just got one to try on my Protos. I'd be interested to know what settings people have been using from those that have flown and tweaked it. I'm used to V-Bars and there's quite a few settings to get used to.

Turbo Dave - When you say you increased the roll pitch did you do this in the GT5 so increasing the amount of cyclic pitch or did you do it via the ATV's in the transmitter as described in the manual. Or did you change other settings. Just trying to get a heads up for the maiden.

Thanks.

So NitroAl,

How did the GT5 do?

I got mine a few days ago. While reading the writing on case I saw something funy. It says, "designed by Germans." Not designed in Germany as you would expect.

Also, the screen shows a setting for hoover instead of hover. I wonder if my vacuum cleaner has been changed by adjustng this setting?

I got mine ordered a little later than planned, but it should be here in a few days.
In all, I have had V-bar since v1, FS600 (Turnigy Vbar), HC3-SX, BeastX, CSM FBL, XBAR prototype, CGY750 etc.
GT-5 will be in good company. We'll see how it goes....

That's indeed a great base for comparison
