It looks like HeliDirect is going to be the exclusive North American distributor for the Goblin helicopters with a $1000 price set on the 700 so far.

Anyone planning on picking one up ( the preorders sold out in one day ).

I really like the full body look with the carbon fiber tail section that is designed to break away ( nylon fasteners ) in a crash. It should have excellent visibility in the sky for those of us with less than perfect eyesight.

I'll wait and see how it plays out but the Goblin definately has my attention.

Hey how come my post was moved from the main forum in only 4.5 minutes ? I was just posting my excitement about a product that should be discussed in the main forum for a couple of days before getting moved.

Ahhh...maybe the other heli company pimps are jealous of the potential market share they will lose to SAB.

Helidirect as the distributor will definitely make it a less "exotic" helicopter. $1000 isn't too bad when you consider a good set of main and tail blades will run you $150.

? where is the reasoning behind that? If parts are in stock locally that makes it not 'exotic' or something, I don't get it.

SAB still never figured out their fbl blades line, brand new to making helis. We'll see but my confidence from everything else they've done has been shaken really. And each to their own but the half scale look is odd, at least to me.

Yea, same here, I have been a guinea pig before and can't do it again, cost me too much and I'd rather just be flying. This will probably be one of those machines I will just sit and admire, sometimes its just best that way.

If you have to get on a 2 year waiting list for a helicopter and pay $45 in shipping fees regardless of how small the part is you need, that tends to make a helicopter pretty exotic. If you can order a small part from HeliDirect and pay only $2.29 in shipping costs and receive it the next day, that tends to make the helicopter less exotic. This is my reasoning.

IMO the goblin is the evolution of the prefomance pod and boom 3D mentality.

IMO a different approach started with the raptor, simplification in approach became further refined with the T-Rex, and now...

everything is mounted to one plate, all the business end of the heli is isolated to a very small part of the heli.

very little moving parts, good cg, super light, and only what is necessary to achieve the goal.

this isn't to say other manufacturers haven't contributed along the way, as well as influenced the designs of, just to say that the aforementioned are the "milestones" in the time line of RC HELI.

But...

only time will tell the impact this design has

My only problem with a new heli is that the manufacturers give them only to the worlds best pilots to demo. I think they should give out a couple of dozen units to the good average guy to fly. They should then video those select guys and get feedback to show to the rest of the public. Let's face it, most of the professional pilots can fly a watermelon and make it look good. How can a regular guy get a feel for what's good like that.

I personally would be willing to take one for the team and offer my services to demo a new goblin.

Goblin
I hear Wrongler loud and clear on getting the first! I love the Heli but looking at the market in Europe its in serious trouble, I will let the mass make sure the coast is clear.

At the very least, the company needs to assemble a team of several people who have different preferences for helicopter components. Because you know darn well there is going to be some guy who has already bought all the parts for his Goblin, and as soon as he tries to assemble it, he will discover that the lipos don't fit or the ESC doesn't fit. A good company will avoid this from happening by letting several pilots test the model with all their own equipment before the initial release to the public.
