Zaaaguy72, you're right... Pyro gives a nice powerful and light setup without increasing maintenance. Enough to fly everything besides extreme pitch ranges and head-speed...

agree that you can push a tdr... however even at 1900 or 2000 RPM on the head with 13-14pitch you are not likely to use the full potential of this motor.. even a scorp 4525 can hold that (much less a 4530 or a 4535).... i have 400+ flights on mine running both 1900 and 2000 governed on the head with zero issues. it could go higher but the flight times are just too low.

for speed, i am not convinced this is a good motor... for speed a higher kv will be preferred... i think it may be sort of a 'tweener' a bit hot of a wind for flexible 3d.. a bit cold of a wind or real speed..

others may have thoughts on this..

yup, so far i'm happy with the pyro. as a side note, what temp do people have the pyro get up to. by touch and experience, mine felt about 140F on the can after a reasonbly hard 3d flight at 1750 rpm.

To go fast you need head speed and pitch. To maintain RPM with lots of pitch you need lots of power.

The high speed flight that won the IRCHA speed cup drew about 200A for the entire pass!

You really dont use continuous power for 3D...its bursts so a 4035 Xera, Pyro or equiv. is more than enough. BUT if you put the heli in a situation that is a sustained high load then a 10KW+ motor is approriate.

3.8*12 = 45.6V for a good 65C pack
45.6V*200A = 9120W(heat, friction, and power to main shaft)

The Jive 120 has problems with the Scorpion 4525 in 3D flight. There is no way it's going to handle this motor unless you're just doing smooth straight speed runs with no pitch pumps or hard cyclic inputs.

How long until the Kontronik Kosmik is available? That's what you're going to need to run this motor.

I talked to Georges, and he said that the motor was going to be limited edition because he had to hire this guy with the monster hands to wind the 1.9mm wire around the stator.

Well I just pre ordered the Goblin what are the thoughts of this motor in a Goblin? The motor has already shipped got to put it in something LOL.
Goblin? Nah, I think this will be a great mCPx brushless upgrade. LOL!

As others have said, I'm not sure this will be the greatest choice for a TDR. Besides, while I don't have one with the same power output as this one, I have too many other motors in this "insane" class sitting on the shelf right now to get another one.

Here you see a 5035evo (modified similar to the 45xx) with 2mm wire ->

Machines for this monster are Suzi DG and Banshee @ 16s. Btw the 4535LE just has a 1.6mm wire

Im looking at the 4525/30/35 motors and this is the winding it says, what is WYE winding on the 4530???

4525: 9 Turn Delta
4530: 9 Turn Wye
4535: 4T+4T in double Wye (YY)

Apparently the jive likes Y winding better than delta.

I do agree with above comments about bearing wear, i even had this with 4525LE and also both gears suffer wear. I think every 50 flights some bearings need replacing and every 100 both gears, depending on how hard you fly. Probably vbar gov would make it worse.

I did fly a 4535 once for about 3mins at 1850RPM, it was heaven, so much torque and just lovely to fly.

are we sure the 4535/550 is 1,9mm? i was told it was 1.6mm... hard to think that 1.9mm will fit in a 4+4... the winding in my powercroco is 5+4 with 1.7mm.. there was a lot of filing/sanding which was required to fit that in there.. very doubtful you could fit a 4+4 / 1.9...

on the voltage... on my powercroco speed setup, even with brand new TP65c packs they barely hold 3.3 volts at full load (40-41 volts per 12s pack... )

can't see a pack holding 45 volts under 150-180amp continuous load..

I echo z/guy's comments as well and it's important for new buyers of the tdr to have this information. The pyro motor is a wonderful balanced setup for tdr runs cool and enough power for everything except specialised setups, check this out on Timo with the pyro http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_Q-dnfmdAs
Not to mean you cant fly more powerful motors, i do as well just be aware that it's not needed and show respect for your machine with smooth inputs.

Common sense may not be common after all

I think what a lot of people are missing here is that the TDR, just like any other heli, is designed around a certain power system and setup. If you venture too far outside that arena, you WILL have problems with longevity and failures.
I have said this before.....we are getting to the point where the power systems are too much for the airframes and there is going to be a point where even the blades on these helis cannot hold up (I am surprised we are not there yet!!!)
If the TDR is used, setup, and flown within it's intended specs, it is reliable, fun to fly, and fast. When you want to push the envelope, you need a specific machine for that or engineer your own to support the forces 150+ mph can place on a heli.
Georges told me at IRCHA that now the weakest point in a power system is not the motor, but the batteries and the connections....the motors are almost limitless in power .........................Ron
