Hi helifreeks,
I need some help with my new YS91srs. New trex 700 le. Coolpower 30%. Ran at ircha this year for the first time. Set needles at factory run in settings. Couldnt get any power out of it. Good smoke and fuel consumption. Loss of power in every manuver and inverted. After trying things all day and two tanks the motor was shot. lean run smoked the piston and liner. Couldnt find anything wrong with the set up so I sent the motor in and they found nothing wrong. They took very good care of me and rebuilt and tested the motor under warrenty. They didnt have to do that with nothing wrong with the motor but they did and I'm greatful. Put it back in and can tell it is going to do the same thing again? There is good tank preasure, no leak, I cleaned the filters, needles, check valve... The only thing I thought of next is maybe over reving the motor? I didnt think it was to fast but I dont really know. How can I check the RPM of the motor? What size fuel line should I be using? Thanks!

what pipe are you running?
Running a gov? If so what is it?
You need a head speed tack to check rpm

YS 91, your looking for no more than 1980 on the HS, 1920, 1950, 1980, all good.

if your running more than that for an extended period of time, you'll wear the engine prematurely

Some problems it could be, not getting fuel, the muffler could be blocked, you could be overloading the engine with pitch or gearing, cheap plug. But I would bet the fuel system is not holding pressure somewhere, or excessive drag in the gear train.. Oh and Helifreaks is the other site.

OK, Outrage 3ds pipe that is new with motor, OS8 plug and no preasure problems with the fuel system holding preasure. I even fogot to lease the preasure over nite and it still held preasure. Head speed tach makes sence. Have one but need someone to check it for me. No binding in gear train, align gov, The only thing I can think of is over speeding? I'm using the stock geaing that can with a flybar kit that I converted to flybarless? Are the gears different for flybar kits compaired to flybarless???? Thanks guys

Just figured out that my governor was disabled. I had to reverse the aux switch. What I thought was on was off? Helps to look everything and I mean everything over once in a while? I'm thinking over speeding, we will see if the rain stops

Same here
Same problem here. Over the years I had an older YS91 do the same thing. Never could explain. Now I have a 3DS that just did it. Now when I landed I did note that the glow plug was not tight. Could that cause a lean run? Not sure that it would. Any help!!

Ok guys, The latest is I had two slightly rich but good flights with the trex 700 and the 91 srs. Finally! The motor has tons of power and I still have to tune it in. My findings are it is cridical not to over speed this motor. Anything over 2000 motor RPM and it is toost. I finally got my governor working right and figured out the gear ratio. What pionon should I run? I'm running 20 tooth pinion with the stock 700 main gear. Which is about 8.5 to 1 ish. My governor is only set at 75% for now. Couldnt check the head speed, no one at the field but me. I'll start picking up the head speed and tunning the motor. With all the trouble I have had I'm starting off fat and slow and I'll sneek up on the disired head speed. If I'm to far away from my disired head speed I'll have to try a 21 pionon. The 700 is awsome, it just stops in mid air and floots?

Loose plug will cause low compression. Any time your sucking air into a motor where you shouldnt could cause leaning. I wouldnt think it would hurt it though. Unless you ran it all day like that? How did it run after thghting the plug?

The stock Trex 700 gear ratio is 8.2
The gear ration for the Trex 700 is 8.2 not 8.5 that is for the Trex 600.

YS motors like to be run on the rich side compared to OS motors I find. Do you have the YS motor manual. High needle is the shorter of the 2 needles and will be between 1 1/4 and 7/8ths open when all said and done. I left mine at 1 turn open and I'm at sea level here.

The mid range needle is the longer of the 2 and says between 1 3/4 and 1 1/4 for settings I'm between 1 1/2 and 1 1/4 like 1 3/8ths on mine and it's the redhead SR motor, same for the 3RDS blackhead motor.

Using either an ENYA #3 cooler weather like now or in summer time #4 plug.

Oh No Someone Please Stop Me Before I Go Broke With This Heli Thing!!

Yea I have the manual. I just have run this motor two half tanks so far. Right now I'm at the factory sidjested run in settings. I'm going to start tunning it in on the next run.
