Thanks Brian, it will be nice to see a spares/price list (esp. optional 13t pinion). The manual looks great btw.

From the manual, it looks like the recommended stock HKIII-4035-530kv motor (49.98mm outer dia.) is a pretty tight fit against the front elev. guide with the stock 14t pinion. Guess it is even tighter with the optional 13t pinion, but obviously doable or you would not be offering it as an option. Looks like this clearance limitation is why you are not able to offer a 12t pinion option (similar to the Furion 6 pinion limitation).

Does this mean that the new Scorpion Limited Edition HK-4525-520kv motors (55.6mm outer dia.), ~6mm wider, are not going to fit with a 13t pinion? Thanks.

Cheers,
TomC

Plenty of room with the 4035-530. Pics may be a little misleading in that respect. Almost all of the motor sits above the frames.

Thought pre-orders were shipping direct from MA not going to dealer first then to customer?

I spoke with Ron earlier this week and he told me they were shipping straight from Montana.

I think it's a little wider than the Scorpion, if it is then it won't as the clearance is not very much between the motor and the elevator standoff but try it out and see.

I've added a ton of build pics:

Mike, how much of the canopy did you have to trim to fit on there with the 4525?

No modification was needed to the canopy.

The Whiplash has been running this motor for some time so I guess you can say the canopy was designed around the motor.

Mike,

Many thanks for this info and great photos.

I believe you are using a 14t pinion with this 4525-520kv motor. What is the clearance between the motor and the M3 bolts that hold the elevator guide? Do you think that there would be sufficient clearance if you went down to an optional 13t pinion? Many thanks.

Cheers,
TomC

TomC:
The motor/pinion mount area is made for 12/14/15 tooth pinions by using different mounting holes for each (with one enlarged hole). The difference is very small for each of the pinions, no gear mesh adjustments are needed and all fit.
