So ive had the Trex 500 for a cole years now, still pretty basic setup. Only upgrade i have is a castle creations ESC. I love this thing more than my 450 and 50 size Raptor, so its time for an upgrade.

What do you all cpnsider the single best upgrade youve made to your trex 500s?

And dont answer upgrading to the 550! I wish i had the cash to do that at the moment.

If you are not using the MX motor, that is a good upgrade.

I2 swash and main bearing blocks, both are well made (in the USA) and hold up much better in a crash (available at rc-tek.com)

The Scorpion has been surpassed by the new 500mx, a must have for smoothness and power.

FBL is a given, only way to go.

you think a new motor would really add a big difference?

another opinion - if you are happy with what you have keep flying it as-is. Start saving for that Trex-600 EFL 3GX that uses the same batteries as the 500.

Scorpion motor upgrade gets my vote for the best upgrade.

Going flybarless would be second on the list.

Those two you will really see an improvement in performance. Some others like torque tube tail drive are expensive and do nothing to improve performance.

Ben-t-spindle you have obviously never had a torque tube tail.

the belt drive skips and also has increased drag.

a torque tube is a great upgrade and is not expensive at <$100.00.
it really keeps the tail locked compared to belt.

torque tube creates less friction and is more efficient (but by how much?) but in flight performance is the same. there are some very respectable 90s that use belts. belts are more forgiving in a crash and are better for newbies.
