I asked this in a "new TDR" thread, but thought i might get a wider range of responses if i started a new thread.

Just built my 2011 TDR, it has:
-pyro 700-52
-jive 80 heatsinked
-9452s on cyclic
-251 on tail
-12S 4000 gens ace 25c (test closer to 45C)
-full size black vbar with spektrum satellites
-running at about 1600 and 1750 rpm
-rocking head (black spacers)

so at first i had a problem with blade tracking. I few good folks on here told me to check my thrust washer direction, which solved that problem.

So now i get a vibration in flight. The vbar event log lists it anywhere from "raised vibration level" to "extreme vibration". It can be anywhere from not so bad, to noticable enough to see the canopy vibrate occasionaly. It never gets violent, but i can tell its enough to throw the flight off. for example, in a hands off hover, sometimes the tail will move up or down a bit, where as my logo 600 will sit there about forever. the equipment (blades/tail blades/vbar/satellites) are from a logo 600se that ran silky smooth, so i'm reasonably sure the blades are in good shape and nicely balanced.

this is my first dual stage heli, as well as my first torque tube heli. I'm pretty sure i got the vertical play out of the main and secondary shafts. I did leave the pinion to main gear mesh on the loose side, as wall as teh crown gear to the tail mesh. enough that you can hear them a bit in flight. i'm not sure if this could cause teh vibration i'm seeing or not.

Also, i basically spaced out the torque tube bearings inside teh boom evenly.

the vbar is mounted on 3 pieces of stacked up parma tape, which is pretty stiff still compared to foam or zeal. i'm wondering if this is also either causing my situation, or worsening it. Whats everyone out there using for vbar mounting? anyone hard mounting (1 piece of parma, thats what i tried first)

Another thing that was a bit unclear, should the heatshrink on the tail control rod be over teh carbon fiber where it slides throught the guides, as well as on each end?

Lastly, what collective anc cyclic vbar values is everyone using, and what gains on the head and tail? I played with the head gain a bit, and dropping it seemed to help my situation a little bit, but not come close to solving it.

I've smacked the TDR around for a few flights tryign to tune, as well as done some big air, and i'm already very impressed. Even at 1600 rpm, it has a lot of oomph, and seems to just WANT to go fast and do big air maneuvers, i can't wait to get it sorted out so i can enjoy it even more. I'm sure i don't have the setup optimal as this is a new breed of heli for me. Thanks in advance for the help, i really appreciate it!

TDR
I had an oscillation issue on both of my tdr's ..turned out to be how I had the sensors mounted...I tried mounting them more rigidly and that made it worse...so had to mount them more softly..

I tested it by spinning up the machine without the main blades...once I got the sensor mounting squared away the heli became smooth as glass..

I mounted the sensors with a Couple thick layers of tape and then a strap over the top...

Good luck
Anthony

jag,
thanks, thats really what i'm thinking is hopefully wrong. do you recall the type of tape or thicknesses or total thickness?

I had the gyro-tape blues at first. Ended up pulling out a bag of Spartan pads. Works the charm on my bird. And good lord that tail gain had to go down a LOT before the tail shakes went away. GREAT flying bird now!

Best of luck partner.

P.S. Spooling up on pavement is a spooky thing to do, try to stick to the grass. Ask me how I know.

spartan, huh, use just one or double up? i've heard a few people say they doubled up on 2mm pads.

I tried double-up on Futaba, 3M and a roll I have laying around. Ended up using a single piece from Spartan. The rigid head 'can' produced harmonics in the airframe on some setups if it's at just the right rpm. If you get that just adjust your headspeed a bit and it should smooth out. Good tape will take care of the rest. I found my huckleberry, your mileage may vary, but it worked for me.
