I'd like to switch around some receivers. I have a AR6110e that I like to put in a 500 to free up a AR7000 for a gasser. Good or bad Idea?

I see the 500 as too big for a park flyer receiver. Capable of fying much further out, and enough carbon to easily block RF.
So I say bad idea. 6200 maybe?

I have googled this subject a few times as I am planning on buying a 500 soon. I've found that the people that use a 6100/6110 in their 500 say that they have had no problems with it and the people that say you shouldn't use a 6100/6110 in a 500 have never tried it. (Probably because they don't think it will work.) I have a 6110e in my toolbox and I plan on using it. If I didn't have one, I would buy a 6200, (but I wish they made a 6200e because I like the end pins).

As far as the 6100 in a T500

will it work? Yes.
Is it possible that you may mask the 6100 and lose reception? Yes.
The 500 is big enough to fly at ranges that make a park flyer receiver inadvisable.

So have I tried it? No. Why? Because I don't think it is safe to do so.

For the 6200 in a 600N, it will wok, but you won't have governor capability without a 7th channel.

Another option might be the AR600. If I were to use one on the Trex-500 I'd be very thoughtful where the end of the long antenna goes. I'd aim for it to be out in the nose of the canopy using a straw - coffee stir type - to get it away from everything else. For a few $$'s more an RX with a remote satellite makes sense though. For the price difference between an AR6210 and an AR7010 I'd get the AR7010 that way you'll have the 7 ch. RX if you ever want that 7th channel.

Would be interesting to see the results of the RX performance with a telemetry module hooked up to those different RX's in the same heli.

I'm glad I asked the question. I really think the AR6110e will be fine 99% of the time but that leaves that small chance for a problem and I'd end up calling that bad judgment on my part if something happened. I got enough problems, don't need a heli out of control. The 500 gets to keep the AR7010.

Thanks guys,

Ive done it with no problems. They have 3/4 the range of the normal ones...and that is still really far.

Range is not the issue, current handling capability of the board and electronics is what I am afraid of. I personally would not do less than a 7000...........Ron

once again, do not confuse range with signal masking.
As the heli gets bigger, you have more carbon available to create orientations where the receiver could be masked. The reason for calling for a receiver with satellite is to allow you to get antennas on both sides of the frame.

Also agree on current limitations.
At a minimum I would look at an AR6200 or 7000 on a 500, with the 7000 being a better choice.

My 500's run SK720 with dual sats.

I've seen people run a single AR6110e on a 1/4 scale gas airplane.

Personally, I wouldn't risk it.

i run AR7000 on my Trex500/600. i wouldn't trust anything less on this size heli. (ok, maybe the 6200...!)

i DO use the 6ch Orange HK Rx (with the sat) on my Protos 500 but it is a much less expensive heli to fix should i have a problem.

for small helis and planes (cheap clones and foamys) i will us the smaller Rx's but when i have a $600-$1200 bird in the air, i want true Spektrum parts in it!

My crashes are cooler than your flying! ;^)
