I need to change some parameters on gy701, related to governor gasser.

Of course, my gy701 screen is dead.
At this moment, only can change Rpm, gyro gain... Nothing else.

Like a hidden menu on gv-1, gy601, gy611... With a ciu-3, can I do something other than update software?

Yes, I know futaba is a proprietary like Apple, so you can't mess with their programming...

Someone out there than can help with a sniffer data USB or something?

If you have another GY701 with working screen, you can copy your settings from the GY701 with bad screen to your computer upload to GY701 with working screen to make settings changes and then copy it back to the GY701 with bad screen. See attached instructions for GYLink copy tool:

I didn't know that feature.

I wonder if the format *.Gyr is in text mode... " Too good to be true..."

Format *.Bin is a binary file.

Well, I need a ciu-3 to get started...

Would be great if the manufacture FUTABA would return from the dungeons and be resourceful with an update on WHEN we can expect a supply of the much needed spare part OLEDs.Robbe Nova Cuatro Gas/Nitro, Futura Nova Nitro, Futura SS Nitro, Vario Scale S300C/1002/21 Gas. Hello Folks... Just a short update. I was in and out of Germany for the first few weeks of this month. I'm home now and back on the quest to get my 701s working again. To repeat, my gyros are 100% but the screens have stopped functioning.

Sadly, I only have bad news to report.
-- I contacted Tony Stillman at Radio South and he doesn't have screens.
-- I "opened a ticket" with the FutabaUSA repair center. Skylar responded quickly but said they too don't have screens. He said an order has been placed but he didn't have an ETA. I have a local fellow modeler and friend that has returned his 701 to the repair center. He hasn't gotten an update on his repair but I'll be waiting and watching to see if it comes back soon and serviced. I'll report back here with any news.
-- On a hunch I wrote RC Japan. They also were kind enough to reply very quickly but said they no long sell Futaba repair parts.

As it is, I'm considering sending my units back to Japan to be serviced. Since I've never done that I'll have to figure out how to do that. If anyone has experience with getting equipment serviced in Japan, I'm willing to listen. Of course there is no guarantee they will have parts either.

The final nuclear option is to replace one or more of my 701s with 760s and use them as a tail only gyro. I've started another thread to explore how this might work. Spending $360 on a gyro that I'll only use 1/2 its functionality simply because $40 screens are out of stock (everywhere) is frustrating. The only thing that makes this option even distantly acceptable is I might one day use the 760 in another model.

And the final, final option is to simply wait and see if screens become available. FutabaUSA may get a big ol' box of 'em today. In my perfect world they will recognize their screen are failing prematurely, acknowledge they produced the screens, and call to say they are overnighting 3 screen in a padded envelope so I can fly this weekend. Unlikely? Sure - but let me dream.

My gy701 is working but I can't modify anything but gyro gain.

LCD with GV-1.. Is is OK.

Blinking led? Even better.

Well, my enthusiasm for Futaba products have definately taken a steep turn for the worse. One thing is quality assurance failure on a product line(s) (BOTH HY701 and GY750), another thing is parts availability, and a third is policy on customer service on who picks up the bill for a substandard product.

Any updates on your side on this FUTABA failure?

My own status remains the same - three USELESS FUTABA GY701 units and a "back order" status remains.

For all of you that are needing a replacement OLED screen for your 701 / 750 gyro.
I have just been informed that Futaba has NOT stopped these.
Futaba do not make these, but there is a new shipment on its way to them but it was been delayed for a long time.
I will have new stock as soon as they arrive in the UK.
I will post on here when they arrive.

Hi Modtron,

Many thanks for your update on this, which is good news, if in fact Futaba delivers on it. This is a long overdue delivery delay by Futaba, irrespective of who the producer is.

Alright. A lot has happened since the last post. I'll try and compact this as much as possible.

On 17 Feb a local flying buddy was told by FutabaUSA the 701 he has in for repair could not be serviced. There were no more screens and it was unlikely there would be any more. Two days later (19 Feb) I received and email from Skylar at FutabaUSA who reported that they had, in fact, received a batch of 701/750 screen and would be able to repair these units. So - short story... FutabaUSA should be able to repair failed screens for these gyros. I was told they had received enough screen to last maybe a year.(?)

As some point it appeared that FutabaUSA couldn't repair my gyros and never would be able to. Originally I approached RCJapan to see if they could sell screens. They could not. I then asked if they knew how I could send my gyros to Japan and have them repaired. A very helpful individual from RCJapan named Chihiro and I exchanged several emails. RCJapan said they could help me get my gyros working again. Below is a cut and paste from their email:
Please note the costs associated with having your product repaired:
Manufacturer Fee
RC Japan Service Fee 1,790 yen (~$16USD)
Return Shipping Cost by EMS (tracking and insurance included)
On-line Payment Fee 3.8% of total cost
ALL COST IS PAID BY YOU.

If you understand these conditions and would like us to handle the repair of your item, please follow the steps as below:
1) Pack shipment well with a note of the issue
2) Where possible, send as registered mail.
3) Make the value for customs JPY 1,000 (USD 10.00) and declare the item as returning for exchange or repair.
4) Return the products to:

Return Address:
RC Japan
2F Jitsuda BLD, 14-26 4 chome, Ohsu,
Nakaku, Nagoya, Aichi, 460-0011, Japan
I found their terms agreeable and send two of my 701 gyros to Japan. I mailed my gyros on 29 Jan. Several emails latter I received an invoice from RCJapan for the repair of my gyros. Total cost was ¥6,795 + shipping (about $62) for both gyros. Several days latter I received my two gyros back in good working order.

Knowing that others here need gyros repaired, I asked if I could share my experience. Would RCJapan be willing to repair other gyros? Again, below is a cut and paste from emails.
We do repair service, but we cannot guarantee if we can do it for all products. Sometimes Futaba items are different depends on countries, and those non-Japanese items may not be repaired by Futaba Japan. Also, the terms and condition may change in the future. If it's okay, please share your experience with us on the forum.

We appreciate it.
Condensing this down, we should be able to get 701/750 screens repaired, for at least a while, from FutabaUSA. Further, I was able to get my units repaired from RCJapan for a reasonable price in a reasonable period of time.

Sorry for the long post but there is much to talk about.
