I'm sure this has been asked but i wasnt sure what to search for.

Completed assembly of my first electric. Ready to do setup. How do you perform alignments with the main battery connected? Especially pitch? Leave the motor disconnected during setup? Is it possible to use a standard receiver battery for setup? Actually can I use a standard receiver battery for flight? Is there a site similar to Raptor Technique that supports the T-Rex?

TIA

You can use a lipo receiver battery for setup. Servo's don't use that much juice. I always disconnect the motor during setup unless I have a setup that uses a receiver battery like I do on my 600.

Safest thing to do is to disconnect at least a single wire to the motor. Sometimes this is not an option - like if you solder your wires direct instead of using bullet connectors. You may also be programming an ESC, in which case, you're going to need the motor hooked up to hear the beeps.

Second safest thing to do is back the pinion off of the main gear, so the blades can't spin even if it were to spool up. This is where you test your fail safe settings.

3rd safest is to remove one of the jesus bolts, if you can't easily get onto the motor adjustment screws.

Truth be told, most of us rely on a properly setup TH and motor soft start. That and be careful with the radio when handling a live model.

You can also set your throttle hold to a -5 to -10 % so that you're motor doesn't spool up. I always use throttle hold, just in case I accidently bump the throttle, when I'm heading out to the flight line, when I need to make gyro adjustments, or whatever.

I am serious.....and don't call me Shirley.
