New Mikado 600 with VBar and Kontronic 80HV, which Gov. works better?
Right now I am using my CC 160 to govern my headspeed on my 600 SE.
This is a new 600 with scorpion 560 motor anf 12 tooth pinion. Will be running a two speed setup 1700 in hover and 1900 in idle ups.I am running 4500 10s pack and 623 edge blades.

This is from what I've read, not experience...

Vbar gov is supposed to be the best of all 3 followed by Kontronik and then Castle.

Supposedly it isn't worth moving to the VBar gov though if you are already running the Kontronik governor.

Having flown both the V-Bar's governor, and the internal Kontronik governor extensively, I'll say this:

You are really splitting hairs trying to say the V-Bar's governor is superior to Kontronik's.

Now that said, if you want to have something to "play" with (since the Kontronik gov. is pretty much set and go fly), the V-Bar has features to keep you interested...like "cyclic add", "collective dynamic", "collective reduce", "auto bail-out", "gains" etc. Not that you have to use them, but some guys just like to fiddle with their set-ups

Another nice feature of the V-Bar, is you can set your desired head speed in the program before you ever go fly, and it hits that head speed right-on in the real world. I've checked it dozens of times with a head tach, and the V-Bar nails it every time.

But for basic "head speed holding" ability, it's not worth squabbling over which is best.

Having used both, which do you prefer? Also do you have to use a battery backup when using the bec on the kontronics? And lastly do you know where the bec voltage is set at from the factory on the kon. Bec?

SkyfoxSXer,

All 800+ flights Kyle has logged during the prototyping of Mikado's new XXtreme heli, has been with the YGE 160 ESC, using the V-Bar as the governor.

johnnie eagle,

Preference? The Kontronik. It's simple. But as I said, the V-Bar is more versatile. But, most of the versatility we don't use anyway

They both hold head speed well. And if you're on a budget, and can't (or don't want to) spend the bucks for a Kontronik ESC, then the V-Bar really comes to the rescue. You can buy a less expensive ESC, and still have a good governor.

Battery back-up? The Jive's internal BEC is rated @ 5 amps continuous, which has always prove sufficient for us (and extremely reliable with no battery back-up), on 600 sized helis and below. On 700/800 class machines, I'd use a back-up, or as we do on the 800 size XXtreme, use a separate 10 amp BEC due to the demands of the control system.

Default BEC voltage on the Jive is 5.6V

Don't you have to use a sensor when using the Kontronic gov..I have a new 600 with VBAR and kon. 80hv. On my 600 se I use the gov in my cc 160.

Question: "Don't you have to use a sensor when using the Kontronic gov..."

A: If you are referring to using the Kontronik's internal governor (not in conjunction with the V-Bar's governor), no external sensor is required. The Jive "knows what to do"
