Guys, have retired my 500 and now decided to get either a 550 FBL V2 or 600e FBL - leaning towards the 550 but have a couple of flight questions.

I'm not into 3D (at moment), much more sport flying flips/rolls/loops/funnels etc... So would like to know how the two heli's compare on the following:

1) What flight time can I expect from them, if setup to be lively but not maximum headspeed?

2) Because of CC ESC on 600e guess you can run governed, can you do the same on 550 with Align ESC?

3) Can I run 550mm blades on the 550 without stessing things badly?

Your help would be great,

David

Both will run for the same amount of time when using 6s 5000mah on the 550 and 12s 3300mah on the 600e.

Both now have the 3.85 tail gear ratio which means to get good tail authority you need to run 2400+ on the 550 and 2300+ on the 600e minimum!

You can use the governor on the Align ESC with the 17T pinion or 16T if using 550's. It doesn't work as well as the CC gov but good enough.

You will need a seperate BEC for the 550, the internal BEC in the Align ESC isn't strong enough for the 610 servos when FBL.

You can run 550's on the 550 but you need the 85mm tail blades and don't go bigger than the 16T pinion, flight time will be 30 seconds to 1 minute less.

60% of the time, it works every time!

Richard,

Thanks for your help, I wasn't aware of the tail reduction on the 550 same as the 600 - could you run lower headspeed and slightly longer tail blades?

You didn't say what kind of flight times are realistic not doing hard 3D, and are we saying that if I chose to use 550mm blades flight times would be less than the 600e Pro?

Are people running governor mode with the Align ESC, or just straight line close to 100% and adjust pinion to suit?

Not sure on run time not doing hard 3D as I only do hard 3D, in general Align designs their helis to run for 4 mins doing hard 3D, this allows them to be used directly in 3D competitions where rounds last around 3 1/2 mins.

Im guessing absolute maximum you would get out of either setup is 10 mins, this would be hovering around at a low headspeed. With 550mm blades on the 550 I would run a 15T pinion and run 90-100% flat throttle curve, with that setup flying sport to mild 3D you would get around 6 mins.

The 550 with 550's will fly for less time than the 600e Pro but again its down to headspeed and flying style.

Most people run 85-100% flat line throttle curve, 10-15% cyclic to throttle mixing in your radio is also a good idea and gives you the feel of a governor.

I think I will be going the 550 route because of battery/charger cost i.e. double battery issue.

Have read about things like frame stiffeners etc - are some of these upgrades necessary?

I understand that the 3GX can use Spektrum satelite receivers instead of main receiver - is this working ok?

Being 1.6mm thick yes the frame is very flexable. Fusuno make a 2mm frame set for the 550.

I don't have a 3GX unit so I can't comment.
