Richard, what are you flying at this time? And what head speed do you think your running?

Mostly nitro at the moment. I have a Synergy N9 running around 1900 rpm, an MA Fury Extreme 90 running around 1800 rpm and a Hirobo SDX 50 running around 2000 rpm.

OK, do you have 90's in the larger ones or are you running the bigger motors? What kind of flight times do you get out of them? Sorry about all the questions, but I'm interested.

Interesting question...

Bigger motor on glow?... Maybe 120YS... Differences?
Glow consumption of course!!!
With a 600cc tank, no more than 8 minutes per flight.

IMHO, bigger than that, you need to move to gasser applications... And that is another world.

Saludos cordiales,

Old OS91 C-Spec and YS91SRS. Both have plenty of power as it's all in the setup and tune and of course collective management. Flight time depends on which machine as one has a header tank and the other doesn't and the time of year, oh and how many auto's and the duration of the auto's! Average with all those factors though is probably 8 minutes and that's fairly aggressive 3D flying.

Getting back into HELI’s..know very little about electric..was looking at the Align trex 550E..Do I not need a gyro to fly electric? The overview doesn’t mention one in what’s included and what’s needed..thanks

Yes, you will still need the same flight gear as a nitro weather FB'd or FBL. The power system makes no difference on that.

The combo should include the BeastX FBL system which houses the gyros for cyclic AND the tail.

Back when lipos and the 4035-560 came out, I was flying a TR 700N with the OS.91 and was getting about 7 minutes w/o a header tank and as I recall I got 5.5-6 flights per gallon. CP 30% heli was $20/gallon then. When I retro fitted an electric motor to one of those airframes with the 164T main gear I set it up to run 2200 HS on 12S. I remember it opening up a whole new world in terms of power and agility even though FBL hadn't come out yet. Wow, I could not believe the performance difference. Of course, the flight times were cut in half at that HS, but the rest of it was absolutely fantastic! The biggest problem was unless I flew easy, I couldn't get a whole fight in due to the main gear failing. But Align and then KDE quickly came out with mod 1 gears. Anyway I finally settled at 2100 HS. The point to all this is I was thinking about getting a 700N again (I still have my N gear) because of the flight time increase, but now instead I am going to experiment with the lower nitro type head speeds. I've noticed that if I run in the 1700-1900 HS, my flight times increase by quite a bit as it's not pulling near the energy. High HS really eats up the flight time, but it is a rush! But, in order to not lose the big power of the E's, what voltage to run and what the smallest packs I can get away with are to keep the weight down. Right now I'm trying a 700L with a 117T main and a 10T pinion on 16S 3300 packs. The heli weighs in at 10lbs 7.5oz. with the YGE 16S capable ESC and a Neu 1915 1.5Y 450Kv motor. I have it set up to run 1700, 1800, and 1900 HS's. I'll try to get back up to the 6-8 minute times and still have the no bog E power, so we'll see.

Would the Align 550E be a good HELI for doing loops and rolls? I don’t do 3D. I just want something that will go screaming across the sky and have enough power to pull a big loop.
