Reviving this thread, as the beast will be flown this weekend.

Ive gone to plastic frames for now, was just easier.

All I have left to do now is, make a Y lead, tidy the wiring, and make up the tail pushrod.
Thats it.

Have to drive 85km into work tomorrow, as I left my charger and power supply there

The things we do for flying huh.
I will report back once Ive maidened the heli, Im very interested to see if it all works as expected.

It better though, as Im planning on taking it to Australia's first Speed Cup competition.
1st prize is a Henseleit TDR

I doubt I will be able to go that fast, but Im pretty confident of taking my size class though.

I am also now using a Logo 10 3D fibreglass canopy, which almost completely covers the chassis.
So should be very slippery for more speed.

Cheers

1st test hover done

I have a very small flyable area in my backyard, so hovering was all I did, and normal mode at low rpm.

Heli was very smooth and quiet.
I really like the low rpm whistle of blades
Cyclic was still nice and responsive without being twitchy.
I think its a bit tail heavy, and my cyclic gains need to be higher.

Packs and esc came in at ambient temp, motor was maybe 10deg warmer.

So far Im very pleased

Also just finished charging the 10s 3000 pack.
Took only 800mah!!
This would make an excellent beginners heli, or AP rig as well.

So Ive done about 10 flights now, and Im really liking it.
Lots of pop, smooth, quiet, very powerful cyclic and awesome tail.
I had to drop my timer down to 4.30mins to account for exuberant tick tocking lol.
Fastest tick tocking heli Ive ever owned, but its not twitchy, so Im liking it very much.
Packs come down barely above ambient temp, motor is hottish, speedy same as batteries.
Doing low rpm flying sounds and looks awesome in idle 1.
My initial concerns about the Mod 7 main gear, and to a smaller extent the cyclic servos, have proven unfounded.
Everything works great

Hopefully get some video soon.

Are you still using the BLS153 for cyclic?
I did the same mods, except, Hitec HS85 on cyclic, JR 8900 on the tail, and the higher Kv motor. I have yet to spool it up, as I'm questioning my original L400 servos on the cyclic. I'm also waiting for some extra dough for batteries. BTW, I'm on 520mm blades now, but can run 550s.

The less a man makes a clarative statement, the less likely he is to look like a fool in retrospect.

Yes Im using BLS153 with very good results.
Tail slide, pull out and stop dead at the last second, no bounce or any weirdness that might indicate not enough torque.
Tick tocks like a champ too.

Im not a fan of the 80 series Hitecs, had many of them fail on me in the past, and they were on Trex 500 size helis.

Keep in mind that the L400/10 frames for Futaba servos are different to the Hitec based ones.
You wont get a BLS153 in a Hitec framed Logo 400/10.

So you have higher KV motor for lower cell count lipo?
I found with my motor, that any less than a 16t pinion, and the motor would contact the frames at the rear of the motor.

My max RPM in about 2200.
If I need more I will just go to a 17t pinion.
But for now, everything runs quite cool and is effecient with good power.
