What heli, motor, batteries and gear ratio? Did you test the system with a wattmeter, were all the service bulletins done ?

I am on # 3
I have had two 120 HV pop within 30 seconds of each use. The first one burst into flames. The second just popped. Number three has worked for a full flight so far...More to come...Fingers crossed !

I had about 30 or so flights on it before it went but should confes that I did crash but as soon as it hit the ground the esc went up and caught the heli on fire. Sent the vbar in for a check up and the servos are good. got the heli rebuilt just waiting for the backordered blade grips to come in and she is ready to fly. Still dont make me fill good I dont want the heli to catch fire again.

I've had five CC ESC's either smoke out or flame up before I swore never again. I now have Kontronik and I don't ever have to worry about programming, fire, or lack of power. They just work, every time. Some people say they can't afford Kontronik, I can't afford anything else.

I put a Kontroniks Koby on my 500. Seems to work great and costs a little less than the Jive. It has a 3amp BEC rather than a 5 but seems equal or better otherwise. I haven't tried the castle but the number of issues seems to be above the internet noise floor.

c54fun, its only a matter of time, sorry. And Kontronik hugely underrates their stats so you should be fine Havoc. I think I read the 3A bec can push 10A for a little bit, but I could be wrong.

There was a recent thread over on the other forum about the same issue of some CC ESC's catching fire. Are the ones catching fire just the 120HV or are there others?

A couple of years back, I had a CC Phoenix 35 burst into flames, but the replacement has been going good so far.

I've had those exact same stats. The last sentence says it all so I'll repeat it for the slow ones in the group still clinging to their Castles and crossing their fingers. If you don't trust it and don't do anything about it.....well, stupidity will catch up to you eventually.

Some people say they can't afford Kontronik, I can't afford anything else. swoop_g

I had a Ice HV 80 pop on the 6'th flight at spool up.

One of the new ones with the full case design.

The replacement is working fine at 14 flights so far, and I'm going out in a wee bit for another 4 flights. The only change I made was changing the timing from mid to low. Motor is a new Hacker Turnado which is spec'ed at 15 to 20 degrees of timing, but I will leave it at low timing until Castle gets a handle on there motor start routines.

Never had a problem in years of flying CC. Documentation sucks, I concede.

Did you go over the heli setup online addendum?

jackheli: I looked through both your post history and every pic in your gallery. I don't see anything above an 8S setup using a CC 100 esc. What bird did you run without issue on 12S? No offense as I see you've got some decent birds in your history but without any obvious evidence of a 12S HV setup using CC I don't see your comment carrying any weight in this thread.

At the end of the day there are two kinds of CC HV users. Those that blew them up and those waiting their turn. I just don't see you in the same class as the rest of the guys losing hundreds of dollars in a CC fire running 12S. Now they're included in the larger Align birds for 12S and if you listen carefully on a Saturday morning you can almost hear the screams of their owners when their bird catches fire.

For a 12S HV setup they are nothing less than a bird waiting to catch fire. Sure, some guys won't have issues but when you call their support staff and the first thing you get is accusations of your incompetence and a COMPLETE lack of them acknowledging their responsibility you find those same guys buying the better esc's on the market.

It says a lot when a HobbyKing esc is winning the sales that CC loses doesn't it. Those that buy extended warranties on large purchases are the same guys that buy the Kontronik line of esc's as they simply don't have the issue this thread is about. Those that speak from experience spoke up about their experiences. And those that 'saw the light' are here trying to help folks that are standing where we stood and learned our lesson. Personally, I'm trying to show them the facts in front of them and hoping that they make the right choice for the protection of their investments.

The facts are look at the classified ads in every online heli forum and see who's selling what. A Kontronik esc in the for-sale section has about a 2-hour shelf life. A CC can sit for days/weeks until the price comes down to someone who hasn't blown one up yet. And my money says someday they'll be in a thread just like this one (and the scores of ones like it).

Facts speak for themselves in this case.
