What do you mean buy your dewalt drill just spinning in reverse? You can't hold the drill? Or it don't have enough rpms, or power to crank the motor?

My friend uses a cheap china brand drill that cranks his 50's and 30's fine.

You must have a weak battery pack. If all else fails just goto tower hobbies and get the Delux Tower Starter it's only $20.00 it will crank 50's all day long.

I use my mikita lxt to start my raptor 50 with no problem. kind of bulky but does the trick. I am not keen on dewalt. Several coworkers have them and complain of the batteries dieing prematurely.

My problem is I cannot keep the starter shaft tight in the drill. I have used a pipe-wrench to try and get tight but as soon as I turn it counter clockwise the starter shaft falls out of the drill. I switched over and used a plug in electric drill tonight to get by with for now and it works.

Use a regular 12v starter. Buy the hex adapter that inserts into the rubber cup. Or, better yet, get the hex adapter that bolts on. The hex that inserts into the rubber cup isn't as good because it wobbles as it is hard to line up straight.

I'm using a regular Hobbico starter, with a 4s 2650 or 4s 3300 or 4s 3600 lipo. Burned up one starter on a YS 91ST, but that's when I was just learning to crank it. Now that I've got it figured out, it works fine. I use the bolt on starter shaft.......

Curious what your experience was with the YS91ST. I have one in a R90SE. I use a Sullivan Heavy Duty starter on a 5S 6,000 mAh Lipo. Spins real easy I use the same starter on my OS50Hyper in my R50.AMA Leader Member

The YS .91ST in my Fury Extreme is a beast...at least compared to a "wimpy" OS .50 Hyper. The reason I burnt a starter up was because I forgot to release the shut off on the fuel line. Also, on the first start of the day, I will loosen the glow plug a little. 5s sounds pretty good!

Got it. I always run out the last bit of fuel at the end of a session. Never had an issue the nest time out. I like the YS a bunch!! The 5S and Sullivan HD starter spin it no problem!AMA Leader Member
