Canopy mounts :(
Ok I am sick of the stock 700 canopy mounts. I keep burning my fingers when trying to remove the pipe side. What is everyone using for aftermarket mounts????

Thanks

Keychain clippy things and hardware store grommets - not as nice nor as tight as RCBooya but super cheap and a fun, easy project:

Cool thanks for the pics and links guys! The RCBooya ones look good. I will check and see if our LHS has any of them in stock before I order.

Thanks

never done that with mine....if they are epoxy'd in you should be able to pull above the mount on the canopy and it should pop right off.

Anyone ever hear of one of those magnetic canopy mounts coming loose in flight? I seen a few flying but never heard of one coming off yet. Just wondering.Bald Pilots usually wear hats!

I bought a set of QuickUK magnetic mounts just recently (700n)

Fitted them on a brand new canopy & destroyed it on the first flight when the rear 2 let go & the swash links tore up the top edges.

After some research, I found you're supposed to leave them slightly loose so they can move a bit in the grommet to allow both surfaces of the magnet to sit perfectly flush.

Realising my mistake, I tried again with another brand new canopy making sure everything was sitting correctly.
The magnetic field felt much stronger this time so I was confident that it was merely my cock up.
This time, the entire canopy came off on the first flight & plummeted to the ground, with no damage luckily.
NEVER AGAIN!

Rc Booya quick release is the only way for me now!

I know someone that just bought the Rc Booya and hates them!! He said they fall apart and the ball that locks them isn't very secure. If we are talking about the same one's.

The Quick Uk's have 4.5 lb of force on each side. That's alot and you have to pull straight out because of the screw. I like mine alot and would change them for anything.

To each there own!!

I have been using RC Booya canopy mounts for a year and a half on my sweet 700 Nitro and have nothing bad to say about them. They do require some sort of maintenance.

The biggest thing is to align the front rubber grommets properly, apply a bit of CA around the edges of them and put a tiny amount of oil on the pins. That's it. I always leave the canopy on the Heli when on the bench so the grommets shape properly.

I do have a pair of the Quick UK magnetic mounts, but I have not used them yet. The one thing I don't like is that, you use them with the stock rubber grommets and they have to be screwed loosely.

I've been using the RCBooya canopy mounts for a couple of years now. Never had one "pop" off in flight. However, and as Heliosprime has stated;
They do require some sort of maintenance......and put a tiny amount of oil on the pins.
I didn't put some oil on the pins when I first started using the RCBooya canopy mounts. One of the pins was hard to get off. Then I tried a little oil on the one pin and now it's been working perfectly ever since.

I only had one pin fail and that was due to a crash, lost the balls on that pin. Ordered a replacement pin and all is well.

I made my own thumb screw setup just like MA uses for my 700. I used the QUK mounts and thumb screws. I had to use longer bolts up front with a spacer to line up correctly on the front.
