Logo 600 Crash Diagnosis
Hi Guys, hoping you can help diagnose my crash yesterday.

I flew one flight with no problems - model seemed to be running well. On the second flight, however, I was flying quite gently and then decided to get into some aggressive flying. As I pulled back hard on the elevator stick, the model jumped back and then there was a massive 'jolt' at which point the power just seemed to die. The model, now with no/little power, slowly pirouetted to the floor. The crash took out my front battery, canopy, undercarriage, boom, boom supports, blades, and frames

I though it may be the boom that cracked and bent in flight, but it all happened 'so fast' I couldn't see if that was the case. I'm using the Mini V-Bar Blueline, Kontronik Jive 80+ HV with additional heat sink (two wires going to the V-Bar). All servos and electronics seem to work perfectly before and after the crash. 10s setup.

Two flights prior to this, my main gear stripped but I think that was just down to poor meshing.

Ah well, part of the game, ey?!

Any ideas welcomed - need to get her back in the air before a show in a few weeks!

What battery connectors are you using?

I had an issue with my Caliber 90 electric conversion when using Deans (clones)...half way through a flight with nominal loads would be fine. Next hard load, the power would cut out, and return. Never crashed from it, but it is scary.

Went to EC5s and never had an issue again.

Thanks for the replies! Some very useful points. With regards to the connectors, I use 5.5mm bullets which are essentially EC5s. I checked all of them and they seem to be soldered on well.

laughingstill, good point with the event log - never looked at that! It appears that in almost every flight I have "Antenna Switched" coming up over and over again. I crashed at what appears to be 1 min 26 secs where there was a 'Raised Vibration Level' (no biggie) followed by a 'Warmstart'... could that be the reason for my crash? The model cutting out? Faulty satellites?

Any more help would be much appreciated!

Nope. First logo crash
In the flight prior to the crash, I had over 200 cases (each 1 sec) of 'Antenna Switched'! In my very first flight, apparently, there were approaching 300 cases (almost whole flight).

I hope that was the problem - signal failure of the satellites, at least that way I would know the cause.

Any thoughts?

warmstart is your problem, you lost power in flight, antenna switching is normal although too many is not good. Post your log so we can seeCommon sense may not be common after all

FLIGHT 1 NO CRASH
0:00 Coldstart A Coldstart is done on the beginning of each switch on time. A Coldstart can happen only, if the VBar
Units is disconnected from power for more than 5 Seconds.
0:00 Reset Reason: PowerOn
This happens if power is applied to the VBar unit. Usually this is ok, but it shall never happen in
operational mode. So if a reset happens during flight, this points to a power problem. During flight the
power on reset results in a warmstart. If a coldstart happens during flight, the power loss was more
than 5 Seconds
0:00 Bank 0 Loaded Bank 0 was loaded from the non volatile memory. This can be triggered my manual backswitch from
the userinterface as well as in flight if bank switch is programmed to the aux channel. On Startup the
Bank 0 is loaded by default.
0:05 Calibration Finished At each Coldstart, the sensor and RC Values are calibrated to the actual seen values. If the calibration
is finished, this message confirms the storage of data into the internal non volatile calibration memory

Event Log FLIGHT 2 CRASH
0:00 Coldstart A Coldstart is done on the beginning of each switch on time. A Coldstart can happen only, if the VBar
Units is disconnected from power for more than 5 Seconds.
0:00 Reset Reason: Power On
This happens if power is applied to the VBar unit. Usually this is ok, but it shall never happen in
operational mode. So if a reset happens during flight, this points to a power problem. During flight the
power on reset results in a warmstart. If a coldstart happens during flight, the power loss was more
than 5 Seconds
0:00 Bank 0 Loaded Bank 0 was loaded from the non volatile memory. This can be triggered my manual backswitch from
the userinterface as well as in flight if bank switch is programmed to the aux channel. On Startup the
Bank 0 is loaded by default.
0:05 Calibration Finished At each Coldstart, the sensor and RC Values are calibrated to the actual seen values. If the calibration
is finished, this message confirms the storage of data into the internal non volatile calibration memory

u can save the file as pdf and post it as such so u dont go over the limit. here are too many satelite switching but what cause the crash is the warm start which means loss of power to vbar and servos, bad sat should not cause a warm start but there is some underlying issue for sure. What servos and what version of jive for instance?
I can tell u that a bad sat will mak the heli glitch all over as we had such an instance here due to bad sat wire, but no warmstarts due to this
u should post this at vstabi.de for best advice.

Thanks a lot - I have now posted this on vstabi. I am using JR 8717 servos with the Jive operating at 5.6V spread between two wires. I believe the Jive is the latest version 9. The front battery got damaged on impact and now only reads 4 cells, rather than 5. Perhaps this could explain the 'Warmstart'?Sponsored by CSM and QuickUK
