Black Cat,
Go to the Tandem Rotor Heli Chinook thread. It's what you are looking for. Are you a 213th Black Cat?

Helped a friend set one up. He used the hyper 50, and it gave it plenty of power. As far as servos, any good heli servos should do you well. One note, make sure the belt that times the heads is extremely tight, its not pretty if it slips.RIP Roman

Tandems........
black Cat 027, welcome to the world of tandems... you are in for a real treat....
I still have and fly mine and really enjoy it.... and it is a hit at any fly in when I put it up....
I have a LOT of other projects since that build, but it is still a favorite.....
To make my suggestion short and sweet.... do the electric conversion and use the NHP blades, AFTER you learn to fly it on the wood blades... it is a bit tricky to get the set up between the front and rear heads right, but nothing that cannot be done if you take you time.. once you have it so that it will hover a little nose high (but NOT TOO MUCH HIGHER) then pop the glass blades on it... well worth the investment...
On epower,, the machine is just so much smoother and predictable while in FFF.....
Servos, I would suggest 9252 or 9452's (and there are plenty of other good servos out there now)... consider that all the servos are on gyros so you what a good quality servo that will have good centering and be fairly fast.... but accuracy is the most important part of the set up... and as you can see from the threads that the others have noted for you to read, there are a couple of different ways of doing the conversion, so pick the one you want and just do it... no reason to even put the nitro into it....
Good luck with your project and I hope you have great success...and will keep us informed on how you proceed...
Best of Luck, Stan

Thanks for the reply
Hey thanks everyone for the help. My chinook is slowly coming together. I am using a O.S.50 SX-H Ring Hyper engine for power and using futaba 9252 servos. I have a JR 11X TX. I am not sure about the rx and battery for the rx any suggestions? The installation manuel does say which one to use. Also once i get everything together and ready for run up how do know you have the right rpm? I know from working on Army Chinooks rotor rpm is a must for the bird to fly correctly.

RX Pack......
Choosing the rx pack....
When I first set mine up I went to a 2400 5 cell sub c nicad pack.. you are certain of not having any problem of a low voltage supply...and then I put a voltage regulator from the switch to the rx to limit the voltage to 5.1 volts.... and this system worked fine.... In doing it again today, I would pop a 2 cell 3000 20c lipo on it with a voltage regulator.... plenty of power and you should get a 1/2 dozen flights on it without a problem.... but do keep in mind that even though the 9252's will run on 6volts, they are only rated to 4.8 and that is why I kept mine at 5.1 volts..... hope this will help you out.....

The head speed is a bit more difficult to explain, but if you are familiar with nitro and tuned pipes it is not that hard to find out... but start slow and work you way up.....
The Hyper will have more power then you need... I used a standard OS 50 on mine with plenty of power.... but the one thing you need to remember is that the engine "NEEDS TO COME UP ON THE PIPE".... so you will be idleing on the rich side and as it comes up it will "clear"...as far as the hs, start at below half throttle and adjust it up from there... this should start you out at about 1400 rpm and you should finish out and feeling comfortable at about 1600-1650..... if you can get your hands on a Minature Aircraft tach, you can actually tach the head for the 1600 HS....that is where I fly mine and it handles just fine... it is not going to have the "feel" of a pod and boomer, but there is a sweet spot that you will find....
Hope this info will help you out and feel free to contact me if I can be of further help any time.... you have one great machine there, and they are fun once dialed in.... and look pretty amazing while flying around!!!!!!!!! Good Luck, Stan
