Sensor life
Hi All,

I just replaced my second sensor on my Vbar due to the sensor becoming hyper sensitive to vibrations. The helicopters in both cases were flying smooth but the event log shows a steady stream on extreme vibration faults. After changing the sensor only raised vibration level warnings are recorded.

My question is aimed mostly at the nitro guys. Is it normal to have to replace the sensor for this issue?

Does it make a difference whether the sensor is front or rear mounted on the airframe?

I'm not sure whether I am just having bad luck or if I am doing something wrong to cause the sensor to fail over time.

What's your thoughts?

Jeff

I've seen this before on the black sensors (AD) but never on the blue lines.

The vibrations in a nitro is harsh, and sensors are mechanical items, so yes, they can fail in repeated vibrations or crashes.

Both of the failed sensors were indeed the black ones. Might be time to order a few blue sensors

SAME issue then?
Jbiter:

I think I have the same problem... I have the black satellite ready Vbar, and I bought it when you could buy it cheaper not so long ago.. the thing here, was that when I installed it on my T700, it flew just fine for a while on 4.0, I was still tweaking when 5.0 came out.. so I upgraded and then my problems started...

I would be able to lift off to a stable hover, then went to idle and the heli started shaking, not badly but enough to get the feeling it was letting go... when I went to the log it showed extreme vibrations so I stopped flying and started checking the heli for bearings. I found both main block bearings to be bad so I changed them, tried again and the same thing... changed all the bearings and same thing...

I went to 5.1 and I still haven't been able to fly.. last sunday we tried something different, took out all blades and started the heli.. when low in headspeed there was no problem but as soon as I went to higher speed I could see the swash bouncing like crazy, so a friend of mine came and held the sensor, as soon as he held it, the swash went steady, and worked just fine...

so we said, OK it is the holding system.. I had the seal/velcro strap system at the momment, I went with the original vbar tape and same problem... I tryed all the following systems and all with the same result..

Zeal tape free and then strapped with velcro and plastic strap

Vbar tape (single and double)free and then strapped with velcro and plastic strap

Spartan/metal plate free and then strapped with velcro and plastic strap

so I am guessing the sensor is failing because I've changed everything that could cause a vibration...

I had 3 black sensors fail in quick succession over a 3 month period on a T700N. Support from Mikado was outstanding with replacements but $1000 in crash damages over that short time frame rocked my confidence in vbar. The flight performance was OUTSTANDING but without the confidence I moved on to another FBL unit and have zero problems since.

Yes your sensor is failing. Went through 3 myself before I swore off vbar on a 700n. No problems with any of my new blue sensors.KDS Agile 7.2/5.5 Chase 360 - SkyHero Spyder/Spy/Little Spyder

Had two black sensors die on me too.
Blue one has been good so far.

Mine gave major cyclic on the ground, both causing crashes.

the best way to go?
Ok guys so I take it as the sensor failing... I am in mexico now, so what do you guys recommend me to do?

write an email to ready heli and send it?

I guess it should be under warranty or something right? or should I just proceed and buy the new one..

so let me see if I understood.. I can use a blue sensor with the black satellite ready?

thanks

So, has anyone experienced a sensor failure due to vibration on the blueline? Are they more vibration tolerant, or will some of them fail with time due to vibration?Team Synergy/ Rail Blades

The posts and PMs I have received seem to indicate that the blueline sensors hold up very well. Even after bad crashes the blueline sensor worked fine in one case I heard about.

I experienced the same with a black vbar I bought on here. Like Hermann, I pulled the tail, head and main gear. With just the frame, engine, and clutch stack the swash would go crazy once you got above idle. I wish this thread would have been here when I was deciding whether to buy used or new. With the black vbars degrading with constant exposure to nitro vibration, I would have opted to buy new and save several weekends of troubleshooting.Team Synergy/ Rail Blades

All that sounds familiar(swapping airframes, etc). I just bought a brand new Blueline and looking forward to flying instead of troubleshooting!Team Synergy/ Rail Blades

That was why I started this thread. At the time it seemed sensor failure was rare and the responses in your post seemed to be leading in other directions.

Since I had two sensors go bad from nitro vibration, I was trying to figure out if it was something I was doing wrong or if it was a little discussed problem with the black sensor units. The latter seems to be the case from the replies I received.

I have since switched out all my black sensors for blue ones so time will tell I guess.

Hate to say it, I think this thread jinxed it lol, just had a crash, blue full size, 5.1. Log is littered with sensor errors 2 minutes into the first flight to break in a new gas engine. The Vbar had 100's of flights on it without any issues. Wire looks fine, emailed Ready Heli.
