June 2011 Spektrum Bulletin
Some interesting information here:

http://spektrumrc.com/Products/Supp...PM8800#bulletin

Two items:

1. DSMX Transmitters talking to DSM2 RX's. I've experienced this issue myselft.

2. DX8 gimbal issue

maybe, but I like the two I have. HH has been responsive to the problems I've had. It is by no means a perfect radio. Perhaps I've been fortunate because I have not had a big heli slammed into the ground. I have had my first DX8 since the first day they were released.

I decided to trade my X9303 for a 2nd DX8 so that I could send one in for updates and service without being down. Since the model setups can be saved on a memory card and transferred to another DX8 it's trivial for me to send one in. Horizon is providing these fixes for free including the shipping. This is part of the cost for me to be in the leading edge of this generation of transmitters.

i have experienced both issues and just had it in 2 weeks ago for the gimbals being messed up.

going to open it up right now because my flight mode switch has not worked right since i got it back and it was working fine when i sent it in.

if its just a firmware issue why cant we just update via sdcard?

load of BS if you ask me
Who cares... its just money...

Note that the bulletin specifies certain transmitters PIDs, not all DX8s.

I own 2 DX8s and neither PID is one specified by the bulletin, nor do I have the gimbal problem. And I've never seen a problem with either one.

I wonder if my PID is affected, it says H0102 but mine is H0102X, I don't know if they just did not put the X on all the numbers or mine is just a newer one that shipped with DSMX from the start (my radio is 2 weeks old).

yes
Mine has a "x" on the end of the label and support told me it needs sent in as well. I have to admit - I am a hard-line JR / Spektrum fan.
But all of these issues with the DX8 is really starting to disappoint me. I asked how long would they have it - they said aprox 12 days for turnaround. That is very disappointing since this is "flying" season.
All of this is really starting to make me think about going back to Futaba stuff.

We registered the radios on the Spektrum Community website and when we login it has all our information right there. Why don't they just put a notice up automatically that lets us know to send it back in ??" The biggest threat to our freedom is not from foreign terrorist , but domestic morons"

DX8
From what they told me is, if your PID letters are listed it is under recall. They also said it is only the 5 and 6 channel receivers without the satellites that the problem is with. My PID number is HO012CM. Also I agree that all problems with firmware and other up grades would be done with the Internet. At least I still have my DX7, I know some of you only have one transmitter and two weeks or longer is nuts.

Forget about prefix and suffix. If your PID begins with these characters send the Tx in for repair.
Gary

This from the Horizon Website:
DX8:
PID's beginning with one of the following prefixes: HS, HH, HT, HE, HA, HO
