puffy lipo...also,what is in that puff?air or liquid?
does a puffy lipo shrink wrap ALWAYS mean a bad lipo? i put two of my 4s lipos on balance charge in series to a 3.85 storage charge(actually discharged slightly to get to the 3.85 volts.) they were both balanced and fine prior to this.what happened??tp 1010c with tp210v balancer.

Not necessarily bad, but it is on its way out. I have a few puffy lipos that I just can't stop using but I should cause I know they are gonna cause me problems if I keep using them. I have put maybe 25 cycles on them after they showed signs of puffing and they still work ok but it is dangerous to use. My advice, retire them before they catch on fire. Dispose of them properly so they don't harm anyone.

I just re-read your post. Do you mean you charged in parallel or series? While I charge all my batteries parallel, I have never heard of or tried charging in series. How many cycles do you have on these packs? If they are new packs and they puffed after you tried series/parallel charging I would not use them at all. They can be a ticking time bomb if they are handled improperly. That is the kind of thing that burns houses down and worse, hurts people. Be careful whatever you do.

I agree, I puffed up Lipo may last for dozens more flights or fail in the middle of the night. I'm assuming that you meant "Charging in Parallel" and not series. Series does not work. Best to keep a close eye on them. I use a quanum battery monitor. It tells me what each cell voltage is in flight, real time and beeps when voltage drops below 3.2 on any cell. depending on what the outside temp is and how hard you push your heli will determine how much more puffing your lipos will end up with. You may very well need to go with a higher C rated battery as any puffing is a sign that you may be pushing the battery a little too hard (pulling more current than what it is rated for) or even running them too far below 3.2 volt mark per cell. bottom line, a puffed up lipo is a warning that somthing is going wrong.showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

thanks for the info
i am using a y connector with my TP1010c charger ...i assumed that they were series as the charger sees them as 10 cells when using two 5 cell lipos.the first time it puffed was during a storage charge, which actually was a discharge to get them to 3.85
