I also believe mounting the ESC on the front of the heli with the canopy on is a contributing factor. The 700e has a mount on the back specifically for the ESC. However, there are tons of videos of it mounted on the front. That is not enough sufficient airflow to cool it down. For maximum airflow efficency, it should be mounted on the back.

It really sucks that the company won't step up to the plate here on this one. There are many people running a CC 80hv with no problems so you would think that the 120 would never be an issue! This is clearly a problem with the 120esc! The only esc I would fly on such a large heli would be a Kontronik...German made excellence for sure.

I have to agree. Germans are very precise in their engineering. From autos, electonics, and aeronautics, they are on top of their game.

castle has 3 techs the first one a young kid that barely knows jack then there is the old rude man that acts like he knows the answers and you are the problem then there is the 3rd guy middle aged very nice and super smart when it comes to setting up castles products he really kicks butt.

Yesterday in the field a cc120 in a trex700 burned when the guy connect the lipos in the esc,better in the bench despite in air but the bottom line is that cc must do something about it, i have 3 cc esc's and i'm very pleased with them but all that burning is no good...

I will just add that one issue on the 700e rear mounting is that you need to extend the main battery wires to get it to fit comfortably. This increases the voltage ripple which can cause early failures. It's not documented at all, but additional caps on the input are really needed to compensate for the longer wires.

For sure this is not the main issue, but may be one of the reasons the 700e plus 120hv has such a high failure rate.

@floop, the delay in replacing your unit may be intentional to give the engineers time to analyze why so many 120 HVs are failing! There is nothing worse than replacing a faulty unit with another faulty unit, i.e. when the root cause is still unknown. This only pisses people off and costs CC and us flyers loads of time and money. The last thing you want is to get another ESC burnout and then risk crashing your heli!

Let's be reasonable and give the guys at CC some time to get on top of what the issue really is!

@dan-uk.

I would be fine with that if Castle admitted it instead of blaming it on users, ripple voltage and EC5 connectors.

I would also be fine if I was offered a solution. IE a product that will work now.

Handling it the way Castle is will only push customers to other products. Not what you would want if it was your business.
IT's what I do.

For the guys who have burnt a CC120, do you think you could post your last available graph including at least ripple, temp, and current? Also if you could post your motor, settings, wire gauge and length it might help show some trends.

Man, what is all this talk about ripple this and ripple that. Hell, I thought you guys was talking about cheap wine fer cryin out loud! I had a CC HV80 flame on me, not once did CC or anyone else ask me if I unduely rippled (sarcasm here). I really don't want to get an electrical engineers degree to understand why my end-user product caught fire when it was properly installed and set up using CC's link and programming. I do understand that as enthusiast we have a natural curiosity to learn however. but for CC to say that we gotta watch our ripple I say hogwash! I don't even know what that is and I'll bet lunch that 75% of CC users don't either. If this is an issue now it was an issue then. To blame that and the connectors? Geez, Funny, I just sold my beloved T500. It was one of the first kits out. It must have over 120 plus flights on the stock motor and stock ESC with no external BEC. Still flies perfect. I feel safer flying my new T550 with the stock components then if I had any CC electronics on it. which is why my CC BEC Pro is still on the shelf sitting next to a new HV80 replacment. I'll sell it as soon as I get around to it. Wheww, ranting wears me out! Lol.

I agree with tacoturbo, no matter how badly an ESC is setup it shouldn't burst into flames!60% of the time, it works every time!
