I think it's totall up to the seller. What would make me happier is if sellers would put sold in the title and close the thread after something sells.Hey, Who put the ground there!

I'm with Marty, you have to be quick on here if you want the best deals. Questions are part of the deal and should be expected but you need to make it clear you will buy the item once your questions are answered. As far as requiring a seller to talk to you on the phone, while understandable, it can put some people off for whatever reason(not me personally).
When I find something I want I first send a PM saying I am interested and ask the most important questions first and let the seller know I have money and am not afraid to use it. If I know I am buying it I will ask for paypal right away and close the deal first and ask questions later. If I am not sure if I want it I let the seller know I'm just curious so they don't lose a for sure sell. This isn't ebay and a seller can chose who he wants to sell to for any reason he sees fit. It may not be fair but it is what it is.
helismash, you are so right, it should be required as soon as something sells that the seller put SOLD in the title. I hate reading an entire listing on something I really want just to scroll down and see that it has sold ten minutes earlier.

"Very interested" and "I'll take it but..." are not the same as "I'll take it.What's your Paypal addy?".

These are private property up for sale and there need be no reason to sell or not to sell to anyone.

I have a growing list of people not to sell to under any circumstances.

If the item is clearly described and I want it, I state 'I'll take it' and ask for the paypal addy. I send both PM and state it in the thread.I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

Depends on your reputation and the rep of the seller I would say. If you have prior dealings with the seller then or visa versa then I would be ok to hold or even send the item knowing the person is good for the money. On the other side of the coin: if you have never dealt with the seller / buyer, you have no right to ask for personal info to talk about the item for sale, it is what it is. No trying to haggle the price down or promises to pay next week please hold it etc. Its not fair to the seller."R.I.P Roman" Citizen 0094 in the Nation

Well I must say I am fascenated by the different responses. The key word was etiquette and from what I have gathered there is none. I am perfectly fine with all of the responses and I completely understand that it is a private sale and the seller may do as they please. For me personally I will never send some one several hundred dollars without speaking to them first. It is very easy to deceive someone through text it is quite a bit harder when someone is put on the spot while actually speaking with them not that in this instance that was the case. In this case the seller had some bad feedback about selling someone a stripped servo and according to the feedback he basically said tough sh@t and that even though he stated they were in perfect condition he never tested or checked them for that is the way he received them from previous seller and for the great deal the purchaser received that they should just go buy some gears and move on. I also noticed in the current photo of the items that the O ring on one of the servos looked to be deformed as if the case had been opened. I was curious to see how the seller would reply to these questions. I am not saying in anyway that he is a bad guy just wanted more info hence me asking for a phone call and providing my personal info. I am in sales and I understand that is the buyer(customer) who is doing me a favor and not the other way around which it seems from some responses people might have forgotten. So I shall continue to do my business in a curtious manor by allowing the first poster first right of refusal as long as the can be contacted within a reasonable amount of time and that if they desire to speak with me I will be more then happy to accomodate them. Call me old fashioned but sometimes a little professionalism during a sale goes a long way.

Tooootally different scenario.

Most guys here sell stuff they have no use for and don't make their living from it.

Selling cheap instead of throwing it out is doing the BUYER a favor.

Most cases anyway.

The key word is PAYPAL! I would think if you use paypal you are protected from fraud to begin with. Jagatorman it seems you have a problem trusting others, I'm not saying trust everyone but my goodness if you are looking for a deal on rc electronics this is why you would look here or HF. You being in sales would tell me that you probably took advantage of good folks and knowing that in the back of your mind you dont want the same thing to happen to you! Sorry you feel that way."R.I.P Roman" Citizen 0094 in the Nation

Protected by paypal now that is funny. Also Mr Dan I am succesful in sales and always have been. Thw reason for that is honesty and product knowledge. My job as a salesman has always been simple. When someone wants to purchase something they are usually looking for a solution to a scenareo and my job has always been to provide that solution. So sorry that you assume that I have treated others poorly and have a guilt issue. I personally will reserve the right to keep my opinion of you and your IGNORANT statement to myself. But wow your comment tells alot about yourself and unfortunately it does not seem complimentary

As for you mckrackin as usual you really make me laugh. Instead of throwing something away and taking a total loss on an item a seller is doing the buyer a favor by recouperating their money on said item by selling it. Hmmmmm I detect a serious flaw in that logic. I think you should try to make a living in comedy for you sure do make me laugh.

Struck a nerve did I? didnt mean to but if the shoe fits..
No one is making a living selling used parts here buddy no one! Are you telling everyone here that you being in public product sales dont have a mark up? are you saying you give the customer the rock bottom best money saving price ? You have no vested interest in making a dollar off that customer? yeah right! Whats posted for sale here is what you see and what is asked for in price. Who are you to demand the seller give you his personal phone number so you will feel comfortable hearing his / her voice? Please guy dont make this issue more than what it is.. your own paranoia .

HUGE difference in retail sales and classified ads. It is almost a complete 180 role reversal in each persons position of power so to speak. In retail the seller kisses the buyers ass to make the sell, in classified ad sales it is much the other way around. Your profession in sales has blinded you to this fact. When you make a living selling stuff you need to make sales to live, when you sell stuff to get rid of it, you don't care as much if you sell it so therefore you are more empowered in the transaction. McKrackin is totally right in his philosophy here. If I decide to sell something I no longer use, I am doing someone a favor by giving them a discounted price on something they NEED. The seller in this instance is always right, regardless. Right of refusal is an interesting use of words here. It sounds like you offended the guy with your questions so he told you to take a hike, kinda like what your doing to Dan and McKrackin. Good luck getting ANY deals on forums.

thanks to all, my original question was answered I am moving on. Ps never in retail sales so I would not know Commercial Industrial and Custom not retail and ass kissing does nothing for building a partnership with a client. Never a tactic I use but previously mentioned that as well.
