seller ediquette
Just curious for opinions on seller ediquette. If somene is the first one to post and sends pm offering to send paypal should he not have first right of refusal? The reason I ask is because I just had that situation arise and I must admit I am slighty miffed over it.

I would think so, but others have some crazy ideas here at times, so who knows . . . .

Oh, and it's "etiquette" . . .

This is so hard to call. Does the first person making an offer have a right to refusal, if he didn't offer to buy it at the asking price? Was an actual deal being done or were some numbers being kicked back and forth? Ever try to buy a used car on a car lot and while negotiating on it with out a written deal and have someone else buy the car? How long should a person wait on someone to decide before moving to the next buyer? So many factors are involved. Would seem a simple question to answer, but I have to say, it depends on the situation. No matter the outcome though, try to always be polite, even, if you never plan on buying from the person again. Charma has a way of coming around to kick you in the butt.Man, I miss the eighties.

A good record of classified business on RR can be important but usually its first come first served ---- at the seller's discretion!

Do you know for sure that someone contacted them before you? Just because you posted first may not mean that someone didn't just go straight for PMs... Know what I mean, Vern?

I said I was very interested but prior to purchase I always comunicate verbally and provided phone number. I had no intentions of negotiating price it was fair. Like I said previously I thought the whole purpose of posting sent pm and then sending one immediately created a pecking order to keep thing like this from occuring.

Smoking deals, like highly desirable, $600.00 servos for $225.00 can go very, very fast. When a seller has great feedback and the deal is that good it can be gone with the first view or two. Wanting to "communicate" is great but sometimes when you run across deal like that the sell posted it low to get it gone. Not looking to chat, just looking to sell something quick based on great price and there feedback history. Check number of views on the post when you first read it. If more than one then you may not be the first person to PM. You can think your first or want to think your first but you really can't know who was first. You could have read it first but took a few seconds to post in the thread about sending a PM while someone just sent a PM. Myself, I don't post in the adds, just a PM is all thats needed...no I didn't get the servos! For me PMs are where it gets done. I don't post something for sale and leave my browser open to track the post, waiting for someone to reply. Lots of great deal out there, you just missed one...no biggie!"220-221 whatever it takes"

No. The first person with the cash gets the prize. If the seller actually says he will hold it while you "negotiate" that is different. When I see something that I want and it is a price I find acceptable I close the deal immediately. No one is owed anything, I don't understand where that came from. You want something, you initiate the buy immediately or snooze/lose becomes applicable.

Seller has the right to refuse sale unless an agreement was made to hold item. Too many people say they are very interested but very slow to commit. The seller then loses potential buyers that are ready to pay.

Rule of thumb here if you in the market for anything here check the classifies a couple of times a day. If you see something you want or need jump on it. Things are moving a lot quicker now than 6 months ago. Just hope no one beat you too it.

I follow the "First Paypal Wins" rule myself, too many people try to "reserve" the product to give them time to think about it or come up with the cash and then they back out, which is frustrating because usually in the meantime you're refusing other legitimate offers.

However, if a deal is clearly made between the two parties, payment or not, then ... Bust a deal - face the wheel!

For what its worth.

The first Paypal request gets it then I wait no more than 6 hrs for payment confirmation, then its back up for grabs for the next quickest bidder.

Just because you were the first to post does not mean you were the first to make an offer. A lot of people don;t deal in the forums, they go straight to PM. I get that a lot even when people are just replying to a thread I started. They PM instead of in the thread so you might think you were first but probably not. I mean, if you were willing to pay what the seller was asking and you contacted him first and have excellent feedback, I see no reason why he'd pass you over.

I guess what I am hearing is there is absolutely no consistancy whatevever and that even if you are willing to paypal immediately. You are f!&ked of you have a question about the item or a bad feedback from the seller. So if you want something screw any type of cauton and send them money. Yeah sweet deals are not so sweet if this is how business is done IMO.

No I think there is total consistency. You are contradicting yourself and simply sore that someone beat you to a deal. For example, you say you are willing to pay via paypal immediately but have a question. Well then, you're not really ready to pay are you? Someone comes along who has no question to ask and is willing to pay immediately is going to beat you to the deal. I don't know how some of these people buy stuff without asking questions, I get the frustration but it's always going to be like this. There is always someone willing to grab what appears to be a great deal blindly. That's not the sellers fault.
