Honda Generator VS other brands
I'm looking for a generator to power my charger at IRCHA.

I know that many guys are using Honda generator which are quite expensive 850$ for a 1000W and 1350$ for 2000W.

I would like to know why those guys are using expensive Honda generator when other brands offer similar generator ''in terms of watts'' for 150$.
And is the difference worth it?

Thanks

Will

I have a Honda 1000. Your question is a matter of personel choice and the money in your pocket.

If you buy a 150.00 generator and place next to someone that did buy the honda because he didn't want to hear a generator run. Do you think he will be happy?

Imagin everybody at IRCHA running cheeeep 150.00 generators. Would you want to be around all of them?
And is the difference worth it?
The difference for you is only one person (money).

The difference in for everybody else could be 20 people (noise)

That noisy generator is a real "friend maker"

The Honda generators are great, super quiet, light weight, efficient and will last very long time if you look after it(I'm about to get one here soon). They are quite a bit more expensive though, but you get what you pay for. The up side to the louder generators is you'll probably piss everybody off around you, they'll leave and then you'll have the whole field to yourself.

I just bought a Honda 2K myself. However, I was browsing the tools section in Home Depot the other day, and they now have a slick little Ryobi 2K inverter generator for $600. The tech specs were pretty much the same as my Honda, but there was no spec on noise.
What's neat about it is that it's got a pull out handle and skate wheels to pull it down the line if needed.

A little digging online found this:

i bought one of those and on the 4th pull start the rope broke and i took it back but they didnt have another. never even gotten it to run to hear how load it was.

so if you buy one be careful with the pull cord, not sure why mine broke

We have a Honda 2000i i bought from Wise equipment sales last year. I paid around $800 w/free shipping. Had it in two days and it was worth every penny i spent on it. Quiet, small, light weight, runs about 1 1/2 - 2 days on a tank of gas on the economy mode setting. Of course run time depends on the load you put on it. We run two TP 820CD chargers on it and charge two 10S 5000 packs (at the same time) at 2C while having it sit right under the charging table and can hold a normal voice conversation at the same time. While running the 24V power supply and 2 chargers at 2C it barely struggles. While on the economy setting the RPM will ramp up depending on the load. I consider it one of the best RC investments i've made.

It's not just the noise reduction, the most important feature is the inverter capacity, the waves are more stable in fact you can connect any device like Tv or a laptop without any worries.

I got the yamaha EF1000IS and it works flawlessly I recommend this brand too.

Gustavo

I have one of the $100 generators and finally gave up on it. Picked up a Honda 2000 locally for $939. Much quieter, starts first pull and looking forward to using it at the Hoosier Heli Rumble in a week.Team Synergy/Rail, Team Scorpion, YS Engines, VelTye

I have a Honda 2000i generator. I saw what they were going for on e-bay. I went into my local Honda dealer and showed them what I could buy it for. I told them I wanted to do business local. They matched the price (including tax).
So, worth a shot.
I race a boat. This little generator has been all over the country with us. It starts about 8 in the morning and we shut it off between 4 and 5 at night on weekends. It starts without fail, so quiet I put a light on it to see if it is running (it always is) and goes all day without a fill up. Change oil every weekend and go again.
You won't believe how quiet they are.
I'd give them 2 thumbs up.

Yep, seems to be pretty comparable to the Honda, close to same price. That's when you have to take a look at spending $250 more and getting twice the power, either Yamaha or Honda.Team Synergy/Rail, Team Scorpion, YS Engines, VelTye

I got a Powerhouse 2700 watt inverter generator, has remote start,
it runs about 5-6 hours on a fill, the tank holds 1.4 gal.
I'm trying to figure out how to make it run longer on a aux tank.
runs at 57 decibles,

it weighs about 80 lbs.

99% sure it can run my RV A/C unit, it's just too cold here to try.

I'm very happy with it, I was going to get the honda 2000, but this one looked like a good try,
Talked to the local dealer about it, they also are one of my customers, they said that it's a USA company that took the "yamaha and kippor" units weak points and improved the weak components,

it has California emmissions, also got the kit to pair two of them together,
I paid about 1,100.00 ish, for one of them if I remember correctly.
I was out of power for 10 days, and ran this thing for about 80 hours with no break.
