Thanks guys
When I came home from Viet Nam...everyone wanted nothing to do with me but critize. I glad that at least the majority is willing to thank our current (past 20 years) troop and show them the respect they deserve!!

Man I need for this to be read by others here...you've done well my friend
The Fallen Soldier
The phone rings and you hear
You listen while they speak
Doesn’t take you long to know
For your knees have become very weak
You’ve been called to go to war
And the battle is in another zone
Then you realize all through this
You will not be alone
Fighting is very hard
as your trying to beat
Guns go off and bullets fly
You can feel the heat
You feel the pain and realize
Your life you have just lost
Not knowing all alone that is was
Christ who paid the cost
Word gets home to Mom and Dad
Who sit and worry each night
They say you were trying
And didn’t give up without a fight
Heaven is great and all
Because its all brand new
Your so glad someone was praying
When that trumpet blew
To all the fallen soldiers
And the pain well never know
Thank God for your freedom
For it is him that we owe

Fran,

I wasn't around for the return from vietnam, but if i was, I would have proudly thanked you.

To all of the past present and future soldiers, Thank you.

To the M.I.A. thank you and we will never forget you. We will get you back home.

To the K.I.A. words can never express the gratitude that we as a country hold for you. You did not die in vain, for you helped to give your family a future in the greatest country on this planet. Thank you and we will always make sure that the price that you paid does not go unnoticed.

You and your families are all heroes in my eyes. Thank you, God bless you and God bless America.

I watched a documentary of "We call them Heros" on Vietnam Vets from our local community. They told stories about their time over there. It was horrible. It was more horrible when I heard the stories of how they were treated by Americans when they got home. It brought tears to my eyes and I wanted to open a can of american whoop-@$$ on those hippies. I called my dad and asked him how he was recieved when he got back. He told me that they had to get off the plane and exit the back of the airport to keep from having dog crap thrown on them as they were called "baby killers". It was heart breaking to hear that someone would do that to my dad and once again I want to lose my Christianity. Anyway, thank you (and to all who served) for your sacrifice.

One of the Vietnam vets said "they told you, that you can lose life and limb over there. They never told you that you can lose your soul".

It is NEVER too late to welcome us home!!

Does he suffer from "Agent Orange" poisoning (weed killer chemical)....I was found to have had it 2002 and the Dorm VA and it has since really put a hurt on me; however, the VA has steped up and has handled all of my emergencies!

God's speed

He was an aircraft weapons loader in Denang. He had some audio tapes of the base getting rocket attacked. I've never heard my dad curse, but on those tapes...he did. Of course he was 20 years old at the time and was in a stressful environment. He told me how the ammo dump was at the end of the runway in case it exploded, it wouldn't blow up everyone. One of the first nights he was driving his little loader truck out to get a load when he saw pretty sparks along the runway, that would just happen randomly by his truck. He got back and one of the experienced guys told him it was VC taking pop shots at him and to turn the lights off when he's running out to get bombs. Another night a B-52 had to land there because it was all shot up and they had to move it every 45 minutes or so, so the it wouldn't get mortared. Anyway, he talked to the second to last guy who got killed over there the night before he was killed in a mortar attack.

He was fortunate to not have been exposed to agent orange as far as I know.

I was there in 1967-68 & 69
I slept one night on the tar-mac at DaNang at the base of Marble Mountain and we were hit at 0530 that morning and lost 23 men. I was there to hitch a ride with the 1st Marine Air Wing (1st MAW). Left there around 0630 and flew to Quang Tri and there to points North. I was with a soon to be called "Black" Opps group. I left VietNam in 1969 with Purple heart and Bronze Star from bayonet (sp???)to my left lung. While in a place we weren't. Thought it was all over and put behing me until 2002 when I got sick...just can not ever escape what we went through I guess.

When was your dad there?

I'm about the age that the soldiers sent over to Vietnam were. I can't imagine what it was like to leave home and your family to go fight in a whole different part of the world and seeing all those bad things. I don't know how people could insult the returning soldiers like they did. I would never do that. Thank you, all of you servicemen from every war.

Brian, Thanks for your support
I have no hard feelings; but, just thankfulness to those who missed being in country (VietNam). All of you deffinitely DID NOT miss a thing. I myself had volunteered to go and would do it all over again. My father was killed in the Korean war on Nov 5th, 1950. I can not remember anything about him (I was born in 1947); but, I miss him dearly still and always wonder what would have been!!

This thread ins't about me; but those that share the same feeling I do about a lost love one due to war or in fact any tragety!!

I felt and still do that going over there was my duty to my country that has given me the freedom just to write this thread or just to live in a country where you won't be killed for expressing how you feel (right or wrong). After seeing the people of VietNam and the fear they had of being killed if they said or did the wrong thing! That's what makes me proud to be an American and that God and his mercy by allowing me to live in this wonderful country!

That's the fact Jack!!!!! I'd still give it all for what this country has allowed me to do and be!!!

Here is where I spent several hours on memorial day. My father and brother are buried here and someday I will be buried here at the National cemetery in Florida.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?
