Vbar gov auto rotation bailout mode
I have a few questions for those currently using the Vbar's gov, version 5.1 here. Please read all of what I have to say - all the info is related.

1) Is anyone using the Auto Rotation Bailout Mode on the Vbar gov?
If yes, for you is the spool up unusually slow initial spool up followed by a large burst of power to resume headspeed? I'm in Heli mode with fixed endpoints. This unusually slow initial spool up happens even with aggressive throttle hold curve values (i.e. -70 value for vbar preset channel from receiver setting). I'm aware the Auto Rotation Bailout Mode is supposed to start softly and resume quickly, but it is nothing like how the Castle ESC works in its Auto Rotation Mode enabled - too slow initially, not linear, and followed by too quickly of a burst of power during resume.

My resume spool up is not a the normal smooth linear spool up. I'm comparing to the Castle Creations HV series ESC. When I was using the Castle's auto rotation mode it is very smooth and linear yet quickly resumes full head speed fast and smooth (all in ~3 seconds time).

2) Re: disable the Auto Rotation Bailout Mode on the Vbar gov and use the Castle ESC's Auto Rotation Mode instead?
Edit: I changed to Airplane mode, so this is no longer an option. Disregard!

My setup is as follows:
  • Castle ICE HV80 ESC, Airplane mode, throttle response = 10
  • NEU 1915 1.5Y motor (450KV)
  • 12S battery
  • Trex700e
  • 690mm main blades
  • 13T M1 pinion (8.846:1 gear ratio)
  • 2,000 RPM head speed
  • Vbar gov settings as recommended by Mr. Mel's videos.

The reason for it, is the firmware in Castle.

No you cannot disable it in VBar and make it in the CC as you run Airplane mode.

But, I found a workaround, which I told Vstabi team, which they will implement in the next firmware, where it helps a LOT against that "power surge"

(it has with castle how it reacts to multiple changes at low throttle, a simple delay after an inital jump in throttle signal is enough to make it much smoother)

One question, what ramp up limit do you run? and when you flip out of hold at start, does it take a second before motor start or is instant?

I'm in Heli mode with fixed endpoints on the Castle ESC. Is it still possible?
Vbar spool up = 5.
ESC initial spool up = 20.
ESC change rate = 20.
Yes there is a delay for about 2 seconds before starting.

Don't know, performance in heli mode is terrible, sure you want to stay there
(even CC themself recommend airplane mode with response 10)

As for delay of start;
Make sure your Motor OFF setting is tweaked so there is no deadband there.

If you stay in heli mode, well, then I guess it's possible to get CC AR to work, perhaps, never tried it.

And how exactly is that done, sir? I've already set the endpoints to be on the edge of the beep for motor on and motor off. How can I tweak the dead band?

PS: I'll change to airplane mode as suggested, and set the response to 10. While not optimized for Castle ESC's, I am still bent on playing with settings.

Latest news specific to the Castle HV ESC:

On the workbench I've got the auto rotation bailout to work as expected - instant switch response, smooth, and fast. But all this is while the blades are not installed. Once under load that will be the true test.

I also got the start up to be smooth without surges on the workbench by moving the motor on & motor off sliders to +140/-140 respectively. Whether or not this reduces or eliminates the motor stutter in flight has still yet to be determined, but I will find out during the weekend. As long as I have the Castle ESC I'm trying to find a suitable setup until the software & firmware are further optimized. That said there's no question the Vbar gov works very well with an optimized ESC.

I'll post my flight experience with this setup soon.
