Prop Strike Detected with new CC firmware v3.27 beta update
I recently upgraded to the newer castle creation firmware for my CC160HV ESC v3.27 best.

As a result my ESC shutdown during my first flight. 5mins into the flight that is.

This was the first time since I've been flying my trex 700E FBL that I have ever had an issue with my CC160HV ESC.

My assumption at first was because of the ESC being installed up front that is may have experienced a thermal shutdown.

Not even close.

The message: Prop Strike Detected.

This occured during flight using the CC settings from their website......

I'm not sure if this may have been a fluke but it forced me into a forced auto.

That's my assumption because this is the first time I have ever had an issue with my CCHV160 ESC, ever.

There shouldn't have been any reason for this type of error to occur while in IDLEUP turning blades at just under 2,000.

When I get home I can post my flight log for those that are interested.

Nas,

Note: I had a dozen flights prior to the upgrade with all the same settings minus recalibrating the throttle like the disclaimer suggests.
Trex 700E FBL
Align DS610s on Cyclic
Align DS650 on Tail
Futaba CGY750 FBL
11deg + / - pitch
8deg + / - cyclic
Western robotic superBEC
Western robotic Lipo Guard
Turnigy Nanotech 25C 6S x2 = 12S.
Timer set for 7min flights
Normally put back 2,700Mah
Perfect for my mild 3D flying Style

The first flight after the upgrade this error occurred.

Imagine that.

PROP STRIKE DETECTED
4 flashes/beeps Prop Strike Detected. The controller sensed that the motor stopped spinning freely. Check for proper operation of motor.

I have updated my Phoenix ICE 120HV to v 3.27 but I haven't flown my 700e yet.
Please keep us infromed about your findings.

Not yet, I submitted my log to CC for eval along with the default Align 510MX suggested config that was used. (pull from their site)

I read on another forum (HF) that others have experienced simular issues but have down graded their firmware until this issue has been resolved.

I learned a few things about this issue:
1) normally dosen't occur with helis
2) has occured when something gets caught in the motor or gears
3) ESC could have become out of sync

In my case I didn't experience none of the above. The fligts before the upgrade happy flying as usual, after upgrading to 3.27, 5min after the first flight this occured.

My guess is that they have tighten the limit for it to combat the fires that happening... at 2000 times per second it takes one bad beat to make the ESC explode, nothing you would see in a log as it has too little sample rate by far.

If that's the case it might be that they got the limit set too tight, or it's your setup that is on the limit and it could have resulted in a smoked ESC.

Just my guess but that's what I would have done in their shoes.

Have any of your timing or PWM settings changed since the update? I know they changed the default PWM setting with 3.27 (no longer outrunner as default).

I put the first 6 flights on my Furion 6 with ICE 80HV this weekend, and had no issues with 3.27 (altho it didn't show up as 'beta', it just said 3.27).

Got 4 flights today with the version 3.27
Max ripple was 2.06 probably when I was hovering.
Average ripple 0.19
Max Watts 6204, a lot more than with previous versions
Max current 139.1
After I did the updtate to V3.26, the motor became very hot.
Today with the V3.27 the motor was too hot at the point that I couldn't touch it for more than 1 or 2 seconds.
The CC 120HV wasn't hot and the batteries (Nano-tech 4000 25/50C) were just warm...
This is today's log file

I just had my 6hv with ICE 80HV cut out on me in flight today. It had a weird spool up first (hesitation). Flew a good couple minutes and it cut power, but it came back! When I landed it was beeping 4 times (4 Beeps - Prop Strike Detected (Your motor stopped spinning freely. Check for proper operation of motor)).

First time I have had a problem with my ICE, going back to 3.26

I noticed that Castle Creations posted a newer update of their software v3.41.1.

I noticed that they currently still have the same version of firmware listed for the Castle Creation HV series ESC's. v3.27.

Hmm,

I'm wondering if they may have corrected the issues but didn't change the revision number?

I haven't updated the computer software to 3.41.1 yet, but I did notice there is a 3.28 now showing as available for the ICE HV.

ICE 80 HV. I'll copy the changelog when I get home, unless 3.28 was pulled for some reason.
