they - and their green frames - have been around for a very long time. frames are now built overseas and components are selected that will put the bike within their price point. I am assuming that since the frames is "women specific" that it is not for you. Sora component group is low end and probably should be upgraded if the rider is planning on doing any serious riding.

for a female, hence the 'woman specific'.

11k for a bicycle is a bit much!

It's all carbon.

I have a neighbor that rides a Bianchi and he loves it.

Edit - I just re-read my post and realized it sounded bad. That is not what was meant. He loves his bike.

I take it you have never ridden an 11k bicycle. It's not to much if that's what your into.

Bianchi makes a fine bike. I actually bought a similar model to the one you posted and its a complete over kill for what she dose with it. Rides about 2 miles a year.
I say if she rides it more than once a week, its worth it. Less..then something cheaper will work fine. You can always upgrade later.

no. not ridden an 11k bike. but i get it.

in the early late 70's, early 80's i had a pk ripper, gt, redline, and still have a supergoose 2 decked out in 80's bmx 'upgrades' sitting in my shed. raced when i was a kid.

daughter is looking at the one in my link as a graduation present.

may join the cycling club in college.

the under $1000 is where we want to go until we determine level of cycling activity.

we can always sell down the road and go with carbon fiber if it get's real serious. if it does, we'll look at the 11k bike.

road bikes have gotten much better over the years, like most things. even entry level bikes have carbon forks. a starter goes for about $600 and for that you get bottom of the line everything - short of going to WalMart. It's going to be heavy, not shift smooth, have cheap bearings..and while not impossible, it's difficult to become a serious rider with something that always needs attention or upgrading. at the price point of the Bianchi, you start to get into a "real" road bike, that can easily be ridden for 50, and maybe the occasional century, but as I said above, the Sora is low end. 105 is a good place to start...but you may have to look a while and spend a little more. also the bike posted was retail, and it's pretty easy to find a good deal on last year's model - which may be only different in color - but make sure it fits. and then there's shoes, helmet, shorts.....think about what a decked out 700 costs and remember that the next flight may be its last. That should put the cost of a bike into perspective.

if it dose turn into something, 3-4k satisfies 99% of the avid riders.
koppter summed it up pretty much. 100% agreed.

i figure 1500-2000 to get the ball rolling.

she has her sights on this bike, she realizes it's a starter and not wanting to drop several grand on the front end until it is time. she's a smart girl. top 7% graduating high school and a large scholarship from TCU in ft worth.

i've always encourged anything she wants to do such as swimming, piano, electric guitar, golf, lot's of stuff. only child.

she stayed home with mom and did as we taught her and it has paid off big time. staying home with mom was huge.

she has expressed interest in the cycling club at TCU and appears to want a bianchi. she doesn't make snap decisions on wanting to drop a grand. i'm waiting for her to make the decision. it appears she has made a good choice on her own, relative to the bike she might start out with. she is not interested in a huffy, which i get a kick out of.

Here's the thing I don't understand about cycling. The object is to get in good physical shape. So people then got out and spend $11K on a bike to TO MAKE IT EASIER TO PEDAL.

It's kind of like circling the Walmart parking lot for 20 minutes to get a close-in parking spot, then waddling in and buying a $1,200 treadmill to pile clothes on.

I don't agree with you at all.
I was a pro triathlete once upon a time and I had a top of the line carbon/spectra monokoke bike and it's not just about "making pedalling easy".
Once you ride one of those bikes you don't want to go back.
The same reason people buy BMW's, Mercs, or Ferraris instead of VW beetles.
Try a top of the line bike with campy's Super Record Components and you'll be spoiled for life.
Last year I totalled my Gary Fisher carbon mountain bike on a downhill crash and I haven't replaced yet (starting to think I'll never will) and the simple reason is I don't want a lesser bike but at the same time I don't do much riding anymore to justify spending $5000+ on a bike.
Just my $0.02

Or you could buy a POS from Walmart and really build up those legs while you're waiting to buy that Super Duper Carbon Extreme Radical Dude bike.

True enough. Like the person that pays to have his yard work done and also spends $$ on exercise equipment and a gym membership. Mowing the lawn is great exercise that is free!
