I just recently bought a spektrum 6i for my son. I bought just the Radio. I bought it mainly for the price. I am trying hoping my sons will get interested in this great hobby and to bind with my MSR. I later bought a AR6210 receiver for it and installed it in a hangar 9 alpha 40 plane. I went to my local flying field and some of the guys at the field said their were issues using this radio. That some of the pilots, the receiver unlinked from the transmitter. I did a search on here and couldn't fine any info. Any thoughts on this?

Really from all the guys I know who have this radio, they have not had problems, unless they were buddy boxing. Almost everytime we have tried to buddy box with the DX6i, we have had a loss of signal. Unhook a trainer chord from the 6i and it seems to be fine.

MY plan is to use a 5 channel spektrum radio as a buddy box. And use the 6i as the master. Has anyone used this config with good results?

I don't know about the AR6210 but I have used an AR6200 with a DX6i in a 600 for 180+ flights including 20 or so flights with a buddy box (another DX6i.)

To gain confidence and know if it'll work do a range test with the trainer box hooked up.

The AR6210 is a DSMX receiver. I'm not sure if the DX6i is being sold with DSMX capability yet but it could. If not it'll work just fine. If/When you get a DSMX TX then that receiver will be a nice for that radio.

Also, take note the AR6210 is intended for close range 'park flyer' type aircraft. Installing this receiver in your Alpha 40 is against the manufactures recommendation. I would suggest you keep that reciever for something smaller and purchase an AR600 which is rated for 'full range' use.

When I look at the specs for the AR6210 it says full range receiver. That is why I bought it. Is this incorrect? If weather is good this weekend I am planning on flying. This will be the maiden flight. I don't want it to be the last flight. The Radio I have is a full range radio. Anyways that's what my lhs told me. I have always been futaba and this is my first spectrum radio. I bought it to link with my eflite msr. I just thought since I already have it I could use it with my son's alpha 40.

After all the info I have heard and read about the spectrum radio's I am starting to wonder if I should have just spent the extra dollars and bought a futaba radio to begin with. I have the 8fg and it has been great.

Just a heads up. The DX5 won't work as the slave transmitter with the DX6. You need at least another 6 channel radio to work. I couldn't get a 6I to work with my 4 channel buddy box and called Horizon and thats what they told me. It worked fine with another DX6. Chuck

You may want to check your sources again because it is a full range receiver.

DSMX is comapatible with DSM2 radios. The only thing is that you don't get the advantage of using the DSMX part of it. Only issue I had with my DX6I was my model memory #4 was jacked up. Uncontrolled right roll when I applied power. I knew someone who had the same thing happen once while in flight. So don't use the radio for flight anymore and bought a JR 9303. It is so worth it getting a better radio.

sorry about, bad info on my part. I was thinking of the AR6110. AR6210 is a good fit for your Alpha 40. Do a range check.

Make sure the bind plug is in the BATT/BIND port or if you're using a 3 wire switch to bind through make sure that its plugged into that port.

Thanks. I pretty sure that is how I have it connected to the battery switch. But I will check it to be sure.

yep - need to be about 3' away from the RX's when binding or even just turning it all on. Too close and it may not work.
