Hi guys,
Need help with my new Trex 450 Sport. Can't get rid off this nasty tail wag (Quark & DS420). Get the same result with Inolab HGD 261HB servo (which I tried first due to the DS420's bad reputation). Played around with several servo tapes, several belt tensions, high gain/low gain, but nothing seems to cure the issue. The only thing that changes when I crank up the gain is the amplitude (20cm wag with low gain 5cm with high gain). As soon as the skids are getting of the ground the tail wag kicks in. Looking forward to your suggestions - I am at my wits end.
Thank you!!!

PS. This video demonstrates the problem:

HOLY CRAP! That is some really bad tail wag. Have you tried a different gyro?

--and have you removed the tail rod ball link and checked to make sure that the tail plitch slider is nice and smooth; no grabbing or binding???

First I had the GP780 installed, but it seemed very sensitive to vibrations. I could actually see the tail servo shuddering. Tried 4 different servo tapes, but could not eliminate the problem. So I decided to use a Quark gyro instead. Instantly the shuddering stopped and the tail servo was a lot cooler after spool up tests.

Regarding the head speed: Not sure. I run everything stock standard setup(super combo). Generally I would say the head speed is quite high. The problem doesn't go away in idle up - feels just more intense.

Depending on what battery I use (25C or 40C) the head speed varies slightly, but the problem is always the same.

Check for binding in the tail mechanics, if all is good and bind free, then back off the gain on your gyro.

Gain can't be the problem I tried everything from super low to rather high. Only difference is the amplitude of the wag.

Regarding the binding. I noticed that the tail mechanics are slightly easier to move at the center, but I wouldn't say there is binding towards the end points. How would you improve that anyway?

go through your mechanical setup 1st. and check for binding. If you havent already done so move you ball in to the closest hole you can get it on your servo arm. if your not already using a CF rod on the tail I'd use one.

What hole is the ball link in on the servo arm. As ea01bg suggested move the ball in closer if possible. Also check your bearings in the tail to make sure they are smooth and also test them by pulling on the grips to simulate force on them and twist them to see if they are still fine. Also check the bell crank on the tail that it has not come loose or has a crack in it that is allowing it to flex.

If your gyro wires are close to your ESC wires, or anything seperate them far as possible away from one another. It might be a pulse off the ESC causeing your gyro to do this.

It could be the esc but i had that prob with my old v2 just like blademan said it could be static electricity from the belt. all ya got to do is ground the tail. Hope this helps.

Trex 450 Sport Tail wag
Hello. Sorry to hear you have the same problem I did. I ended up ordering the upgrade metal slider and metal arm to replace the plastic pieces. The slider would move if you twist the tail blades without moving the servo arm. Too much side to side movement.

After replacing those pieces with metal, No further issues with wag at all!! That was the problem for me.

The parts were $4.00 for the metal bearing slider, and $8.00 for the aluminum arm. Well worth it.

tail wag
Also it won't hurt to check and make sure that the head assy, there is no binding there. also check the tail shaft for play, if any replace the bearings, check the shaft also for no wobble.

Same problem with 450 pro super combo
I just finished building my 450 pro and I am having the same problem. I am going to check my setup one more time, but there seems to be alot of play in the tail rotor linkage and slider.
