Hi all. I have put together a 500 size frankenstein heli using an ECO 7 JetRanger fuselage and mixing it with a HK500 TRex clone. I have keep the e-motor driven concept of the ECO 7 for building simplicity and because it's more than appropriate for scale flying.
I have used a SlowMax 300 size brushed motor, a Futaba 401 gyro and a micro JES 050 ESC for the T/R system. They draw regulated current from a 4S Lipo pack which also powers the main motor.
My Tx is a JR 9303.
I have it all ready to go but I'm having problems initializing the JES 050 as to make it work adequately with the Futaba 401 and the Tx.
Does anyone have any experience with type of T/R setting? Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much for reading this.
Cheers.

Well, I'm not sure if this will help or not but when I was flying a Blade CP with all seperates and a 401 I had to move the rudder stick all the way to the left in order for the tail ESC to initialize. The ESC needs a low point and a high point otherwise it doesn't know where it is

So anyway, I'm pretty sure there is a way to program your TX to initialize the ESC at midstick but I don't quite know how, I just moved the stick to the left until I heard the tell tale ESC "Beeps". The 401 seemed to hold pretty good whether it was blinking or solid red. Good luck with your project.

On a tricoptor using Futaba 401's driving esc's I need to power up the gyro all the way through initialization before connecting the esc to power. In my experience the 401 takes a while to boot up, if powered up at the same time the esc sees an invalid signal and won't arm. Hope this helps.

I believe the only way to have the tail initialize with the rudder stick in the middle, is if you use a Castle Creations 10 ESC, it has Some Programming For This I Believe So It Will Initialize in the middle. It has End Point Adjustment, or A centering Adjustment if I'm right. I hold the right to be wrong though.

They may have esc's with more amps that can do the same, Not Sure.

You can try messing with the settings in the REVO also.
I have a CP PRO in a scale Huey body, with dual brusless. TRotor esc arms after the main, then gyro lights up. Not using a 401, but the idea is the same. [I am using a Futaba 10 CHP radio, so you will have to translate to JR.]
I have my REVO on, & in 'Normal' I set a 5 point curve that goes: -45, -15, -5, 0,0.
Idle 1 + 2 are all '0'.

Play with the lowest point in Normal, until the TR ESC will arm itself, then lower it a few points more.
DONT try to set this too fine - you CAN get the ESC to reset itself if you move the stock beyond the initialize setting. Piro's into the ground before you can react - ask me how I know . . .
The idea is that you get the ESC to arm in Normal, get the settings close to hold reasonably straight into hover, then handoff the signal to the gyro to control tail in IDLE 1 & 2.

Checkout / search the E-Flite Blade area on setting-up dual ESCs - lot's of info there & more folks who've been doing this stuff alot.

Hope it Helps !!!
