Quite frankly, we've already been through all this with the 14MZ. Yeah, a few folks figured out what they needed to do to create their own splash screen. A few also figured out most if not all format of a model memory. Many promised a program to allow editing on the PC. If you search you'll find the attempts made.

In the end no one delivered much of anything and there really wasn't much interest in it either.

Personally, I'd rather spend my time flying instead of hacking. I already have enough high tech projects to keep me busy.

testing is very expensive - and I don't want the tests to be done by amateurs. . .

one of the photos in the link posted earlier shows a couple of items-

PS-01 and PS-10

Anyone know what these are? Could they be step down devices for the tail servo when using a HV system?

They would have such a huge military application if they had an SDK . Some compared Futba to Apple. Yes Apple very protective about what goes into there hardware, but they do work with 3rd party vendors. You just have to follow a very strict protocol. And they have to certify it. One reason the Iphone is so popular is because it allow 3rd parties to write software for it and provide a market. There would be some many ppl who do robotics that would love a radio like this. Anyways this a great step. 2 way com is HUGE, i wonder what bandwith it can handle.

Seeing all these innovations and overall very solid engineering I am really happy I went with Futaba some years ago. I take a sound and tested design over marketing gimmicks any time. Also who cares for "first to market" or a "new release" every quarter. If it's done right then I prefer to wait and then pay the price ( you get what you pay for ). OK I will likely pass on FX-18, still very happy with my 8FG.

they still need to recuperate their development costs. I am guessing that this has been years and millions of dollars invested to get to what we have now.

considering all the engineering involved it's probably a steal even at $3300.

Again, if there is any truth to that $3,000-something number that is the MSRP. The 14MZ has a current MSRP of $3,500 so it looks like the 18MZ will sell for about the same as the 14MZ does not. TO me that is a bargain. But I get you point. I wish General Motors sold Cadillacs for the same price as the Chevy Malibu.

If you take the price of a 1970 7 channel radio, say $380 street, and multiply by 5 to 7 for inflation, you get $1900 to $2660. So premium radios are about right relative to inflation.

This is a fun tool:

http://www.usinflationcalculator.com/

$380 in 1970 would be $2,202 right now. And keep in mind that the 1970 radio was bare bones. No servo reversing, no end points, no dual rates, nothing. Just a receiver with 7 plug and a battery lead.

Put another way the 8FG at $480 today would have been only $83 in 1970!!

Windows... again?

Windows CE?... again! ...

Well, it is time for more agressive utility programs...

Till hours doing some programming on 14MZ, colors start to be bored...
of course, if battery is not went out first...
The possibility to change some nasty colors combinations... to much to ask for Futaba...

Well, I am expecting from futaba to solve some bugs on update programs for 12Z prior 18Mz to hit streets.... is this much to ask?

Telemetry... main reason to move on...

Saludos cordiales,

My guess is that the new 18MZ will be capable of all three Futaba spread spectrum modes, FASST, FASSTest, and FHSS.
