What many don't understand is that much the overall software architecture in the 8FG and the 12's had its foundation in the 14MZ. This radio will serve as the foundation for new radios to come in the future.
Excellent point Doc. It's true with most everything we use from cars to our radios, etc. Most people will still shy away from the crazy cost.

Here is a translation off of the Chinese site that broke the pictures:
This is a status-14MZ succeed current flagship of the new specifications, 18MZ 18 flight movements with a remote control system. Stance produced in the field to refer to the sample display unit which sets 18MZ (internal function still can not perform the operation.)

On the basic appearance of the term, 18MZ and 14MZ no significant difference in terms of charm. The built-in 2.4GHz antenna, the short was officially adopted as expected (conventional antenna is the end), as a huge color LCD screen, of course, is again used.

18MZ-site characteristics of the known ... the back of the remote control you can set up a camera lens, although this is only only 1 million pixels camera, but its aim is to shoot the models in use as displayed on the LCD Review the picture on the screen, so still tastes of the desired mapping.

In addition, the site has not seen the new models corresponding 18MZ Receiver (only put out an existing 8-action receiver side), which is one of the places not yet understand.

Finally, 18MZ this year (2011) September listing, and the reference price determined. (estimated approximate NT 100,000 yuan large off ...!)

Above, from Shizuoka, Japan Exhibition on-site emergency quick report, later if further news release will be added at any time.
Looks like September, and oh yeah, it has a CAMERA in it!!

The $100,000 NT Yuan is about $3,498.00USD. Which is the current MSRP of the 14MZ

That would be funny of they used that for model matching.

model matching is just a cheap marketing gimmick of a second rate system.

but, hey, that's just my opinion.

I hope it has live telematy in it. Imagine if you could ready battery voltage and RPM on the fly. No more tacks, not more timer. Set a warning tone to a low battery voltage and stop flyng then.
That would be so cool.

From FB:

HUGE NEWS from the Shizuoka trade show in Japan this week. Futaba announced the 18MZ transmitter! Six years ago the 14MZ was introduced and it redefined what a transmitter could do for the pilot. Now, the 18MZ redefines this once again. Welcome to the world’s most advanced radio control transmitter! 18 channels, bidirectional FASSTest technology and a huge 640 x 240 LCD touch screen name just a few of its key features. Stay tuned for more details to come…
bidirectional FASSTest technology
Thanks,
Chris

It makes perfectly good engineering sense to put telemetry sensors on the S.Bus and have a bi-directional receiver. Much better than that other brand.

If the TX draws much less current, the same battery may be used.

should have battery voltage monitor and I amd really hoping for fuel sensing!!! thats the only two things I need, who cares about GPS stuff? I would much rather see how much juice I have left in my battery and how much fuel I have. Fuel would be great for my turbine jet!

My basic concern with the battery is that Sony is moving away from that particular format. So I wonder about the long term ability to get new packs. Already when you get one you have to wonder how old it is.

okay so with GPS u can see how fast and how high you go, and yes if u crash and lose it you can possible go track it down. I have been flying 23 years and have yet to lose a model.

This is great only few things i wish it would have.

1) an SDK for developing custom ad-dons for 3rd parties. (This would kill JR/spectrum) Tell me it would not be cool if you could by 3rd party addons for telemetry, mapping, drone mods and AP.
2) expedition slots such as mini-pci/mini-pcie

I hope the replace windows ce with android, embedded linux or some other OS.

^^^ I was thinking of that point too, knightofcarnage, but thought it would be a bad idea.

basically we're talking about "mission critical" software here. I don't want other developers to develop stuff for it, since I don't know/trust what their testing/understanding of the system is going to be like.

for harmless stuff that displays data, yes, maybe Futaba can release an SDK for it. But the control system should not be messed around with - it would be like giving someone a rope to hang himself with.

Maybe someone will jail break the TX and you can reroot it. That seems to be popular these days.

Wishful thinking, but it's never going to happen, well, it's never going to come from Futaba, that's for sure. Futaba has never been open to any outside development or integration of their products and I don't see any changes anytime soon. Of course, it didn't take long for the s.bus protocol to be reverse engineered and 3rd party vendors to incorporate it into their products.

I agree with AceDude. Futaba has never shown any inclination towards allowing open source stuff. In that way they are the Apple of the RC world. And that seems to be working fine for both of them!!

Right on. We already have several threads about this. How about 2S A123. They are commercially available in may sizes beyond 2300.

The SDK idea has a lot of merit. You let famous name brand contest flyers design the screens for their particular part of the hobby.

BUT designing the SDK is an order of magnitude more effort than the TX software itself. Especially since the TX probably uses EXTREME PROGRAMMING to go along with the CE.

(EXTREME PROGRAMMING is a MS Beatification of Hacking.)

jail breaking frivolous appliances (ipads, iphones etc. . ) fine. Jail breaking life support machines, mission critical software that control nuclear reactors, flight control software for commercial airlines, transmitter software should not be allowed. And if someone did they might find that they have blood on their hands.
Futaba has never been open to any outside development or integration of their products and I don't see any changes anytime soon.
that's very reassuring to know. Don't want some idiots running amok with all these features and then find out that it might have other implications for the system that could result in someone's death.
