I just purchased 10 Sanyo 1700 SCR (red) cells from Tower. According to Red Scholefield (Battery Clinic Guy) they were manufactured July of 2010. They are cycling out at about 1800 mAh @ 1.2 A discharge. That's outstanding since they are supposed to be 1700 at C/5 = 340 mA.

The difference is these are fresh ! I expect to get at least 5 years use out of these RX packs.

If a Sanyo cell is doing like it should, it should yield greater than rated capacity when new. Any new Sanyo pack that delivers no more than rated capacity is, indeed, suspect for being old.

That's great! What voltage are you discharging them to?

I don't think I've ever gotten more than the rated capacity out of a cell, even when new.

0.9V at the charger. Allows for some drop in the wires at 1.2A. Batteries sold to the RC market are seldom if ever new. That's my astonishment. We normally get surplus or out of date cells.

Richard,

Some here might be interested to see how the date coding on Sanyo cells works. Care to post how it goes. It's been a long time since I worked with it.

How to read date codes:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8..._/anchor/tm.htm

Red's Battery Clinic. Red was engineer in charge of the GE AA NiCD's that replaced button cells in the 60's.

If it ain't here it is not currently in production and is probably very old or even surplused (beyond the expiration date) stock:

Go down to SPECIFICATIONS and look at the ever shrinking list. Compare this to the list at your favorite online mega battery store.

If you buy surplus cells for pennys and sell them for bucks, you make a good profit.
