I just bought the following raptor and need someradio suggestions. I know i need a 7 channel and i am really at a loss on what to get. I had been looking at the DX7 but i keep reading about "issues". I want a simple set up that a beginner can learn on. I am new so 3d is out of the question but i do want to get there one day.

a dx7 is fine. i have the first ones that came out few years ago and i flew 6 helis on it and it never gave me a problem. i don't care what radio you get unless you program a few before you still are going to need help going threw the menues.

I just started flying my Futaba CGY750 flybarless controller and 8FGH radio. It’s a winning combination. That radio actually has 14 channels and uses the famous Futaba S-Bus interface that really cuts down on wiring. It does use standard servos so I just used my old servos. The CGY uses up to 10 channels so you can see how that would save a lot of wiring.

If you have not tried flybarless you really don’t know what you are missing.

I am a JR man but I will say that the Futaba 8FG IS the best value for money radio on the market today!
The 8FG is future proof by way of downloadable updates (Like you will ever need them) IMHO it is the second best radio in the Futaba lineup for 1/5 of the price of the top dog!

I have had the DX7 since it came out and most all our club members use it also with ZERO problems , I love how easy it is to use and program . If you find a use one buy it and do not look back .

In the future you may need more channels especially if you go flybarless and use a governor. Like I said the CGY flybarless system takes 10 channels for full functionality. If you are in the market for a new radio 10 channels or more would be a wise investment.

I am using a futaba 7C 2.4. Almost bought an 8FG when upgrading, but the 8FG is supposedly hard to program. I like the 7C.

Also, the basic 8FG has been discontinued and replaced with a "super" model. Probably why the one above is for sell.

I was just looking at the "new" super 8fg. If you look in the lower corner of the add you will see that the new part is the software update and current 8fg owners can download it into their systems. It doesn't look like the 8FG is being discontinued. It is just a major software update. If you can spend the extra $ go for the 8fg. Being upgradeable is really a cool future proof feature. A few years ago who would of thought of FBL integration into the transmitter. Now you can have it with your current FG. If you want to save a few $ the 7c has all the functionality a basic helicopter setup needs. I don't think anyone would argue to be sure and get a 2.4 system. As far as JR or futaba, there is no problem programming either. They are just different. Although I personally favor futaba I would say go with the brand that the local experts that will be helping you use.

I favor futaba as well, but the one thing that worries me is if I turn the transmitter and heli on with the incorrect model chosen. First the damage that could occur because of swash types and set points, and secondly if it made it into the air. I believe JR won't let this happen as the radio and each specific receiver is paired.

That is right. Jr has model match. It associates each receiver with a specific model memory in the transmitter. Futaba does not offer this. The 8FG does do this in a way though. I would not let this be the main reason for you decision though.
