I started this question at Blades forum but only got 3 comments after a week.
I am trying for better luck on Main forum !

Dear All:

I am going to a fun-fly in which pylon heli races will be part of the event.

It is limited to 2,000 rpms and 600-620mm main blades.

Which blades and brand do you think will work better for this competition ??

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Here is second part:
My idea is to have fun !
I have helis that aré not expensive and do not get flying time anymore, my equipment will be a Hirobo EVO 50.
It is fast, light and I still have TOO many parts.

The dilemmas come on:

1.-wide blades or narrow blades; wide is good for 3D and narrow for F3C but I have zero experience on Pylon races and I wonder which style will rule !

2.-600mm or 620mm; at a limited 2,000 rpms perhaps 620 could be better but then the pop and bogging factors come into play and as said before, I have not tried this before.

The race is between 2 pylons 100 yards apart and turning to the left, 2 helis per match.

I am thinking on placing extensions to the back part of the landing gear to have the heli on a ready to throttle up forward actitude.

I am already practicing in my flight simulator unfortunately I can not program blades types !

Semi symetrical will give more foward speed. Lighter will react quicker. If you can pull the 620 that should translate to more speed also.

I would go with woodies or something really cheap. The contest will be won due to the skills of the pilot and not because of a set of blades, and a midair collision is very likely to happen. With cheaper blades, you will probably fly with wreckless abandon and have a better chance of winning.

I got a fever! The only prescription is MORE 6HV

good tips all, thanks !

620mm, semisymetrical blades, heavy paddles, werckless flying.... it is starting to look like a racer !!

I am not sure I can get 620mm woodies though.

if any one has other commets please post it !!

I would go with the cy600FBL blades, they track super well which is great for fast flight.

Here is a video that I found to give you an idea. The main thing in pylong racing is to be consistent, the more movements you do, the slower it makes you.

Consistent
We have done pylon racing with 450's at IRCHA for quite a while now.
The most inportant item is to be able to fly a consistent line, and be able to move the line based on where everyone else is.

Blades? I always ran either NHPs or "V" blades. Both are a good blend of speed and response.

For all out speed, go with an FAI style blade that has some washout in the tip.

The older "mild-S reflex" blades are by far the fastest, but lack in response.

Bottom line? - Any blade will work, get a setup that is easy to fly and practice in all conditions. Get a helper, use a stopwatch!

Thank you all for your comments !

The organizers of this event told me they will post a video clip on a demo race soon, this at mexicorc.com but Be sure I will link it to this thread so you can see it as well.

We are going to carve/cut a 680 mm woodies to 620mm and perform a test, it will be semi symetrical and light. This next month.

I'll keep you posted !
