Speed under load is the best for FBL setups. Some servos are fast but cannot hold torque under load. That is where a slightly slower servo that can keep the torque loads is better. Faster is better but only if it can keep up .............Ron

The reality is that speed without power or power without speed both suck. FBL is at its best when the servos have both.

So what is the best servo out on the market then that satisfies both. I run BLS451 at 6V but feel there could be some improvement

BLS253 or BLS255 would be good choices. The latter esp on HV.

Well the 253 is same speed an torque and the HV 255 is not really much better in terms of torque and speed.

I want .06 and 20KG or so.

PM Fury3D and ask him how much of a difference there was when he went to the BLS255HV. Specs DO NOT tell the whole story with servos, and this is a prime example.

You could also ask rstacy. Kyle has been flying them for several months.

When VBar 4.0 got out..... "it was perfect" .... then 5.0 "perfect" again..... now 5.1 "perfect" ?
Anybody working in industry will know that the above superlatives come from marketing who would say anything to sell their product. The hardware (we're talking about the CGY750 in this context) was pushed out the door by a project manager eager to get his bonus, meanwhile the engineers were still trying to finish off all the features in the original marketing spec plus a few others they'd been trying to sneak in because that's what engineers do!

Of course by the time the units shipped the hardware engineers efforts were committed and they end up chasing production issues possibly making tweaks to the design that get phased in such that we don't even get to know about it to save embarrassment.

And then there's the software. The software engineers have the luxury of completing all the features they had failed to get into the first release, and doing an update which will also be used to fix bugs which have come to light. This gives marketing fresh opportunity to reuse their superlatives!

What's novel in this instance is that Futaba performed such a huge feature improvement to the T8FG, way beyond what could have been expected!

... but I think the design of the 8fg case was by a bunch of guys with really small hands who goes bowling with 1 pound ball.

The bls 452 preforms pretty good also. Less speed than the 451 but tests show the torque is more important.

452 is a car servo, closest in a heli servo is BLS252.
12.2kg and 0.13sec at 6v.
After that, as Ben said, BLS255HV

For the love of the hobby

It'll be interesting to see how they work since that servo's amplifier was not optimized for helicopter use like the BLS255HV's was.

Dr Ben

What is the difference between a car servo and a heli servo with reguards to the amp being optimized for a heli? Thanks Kevin

Any date yet for the Piro update?

My question was not the car servo thing again. It was about what Futaba dose to the amps in the servos that makes each servo a little different. So what is the difference between an airplane servo vs a heli servo vs a car servo in the electronics of the servo and not just diffent moors. Is there different dead bands and what are they? What advantage dose a heli servo have over others?

So back to the original topic, when is this new piro comp going to be released from Futaba?
When this video was put up it looked and sounded like the new piro comp was working great, even for Wolfie. But then again, the three Futaba pilots in the USA that were testing the 750 last year put up video's saying it was by far the best FBL system they have ever flown... The 750 works better than any other FBL gyro I have used (even the Vbar) but the piro sucks on it.

Just release the Piro upgrade, even if its not perfect its has to be better than what we have now.
