Jgatorman,

The sad part to all of this...as we get older, our reflexes slow down (and the shock and awe effect doesn't help matters either).

But not to worry...some parts are on the way..the Rave "will" fly again!

Well so far $551.80 in the hole (after I buy a set of blades) after the rebuild. It's finished and ready to test fly, I was going to use a set of V-Blades until I'm able to buy some Radix FBL's, but they wouldn't fit!

Come to find out the bolt that holds the blade grip on sticks out of the grip too far. You will need to grind the end of the blade off in order for it to fit...well I'm not going to do that. So I robbed the Radix set off of my Trex 700, even though they're 690's, they will work for now.

As for the tail drive gear, I lightly sanded (with 320 grit) the inside diameter of the drive gear hub until it was the same dimension as the auto rotation sleeve.

So far the weather hasn't been that good around here. Hopefully Sunday will be a better day to test fly...

the 690's will be fine on your rave.
i was running 690fbl's on mine and the only thing i could complain about was slightly and i mean slightly soft collective compared to edge 693's which i tried for a few flights.

currently got some mavrikk 690 fbl blades on and collective more aggresive again.

good to see its nearly back together for you though, pity about the price though

gotnoclue,

I like the 710's better. I notice the difference when practicing autos. The Rave comes in faster.

gotnoclue, so how are the 713's? And the Mav's (with cord I'm presuming)?

I was able to get out yesterday and test fly both my Trex 700 and Rave. I put 4 flights on the Rave. With the 690's I found the collective punch dropped a bit. If I raise it any more, I'll be over 15+/- degrees.

The Trex flew fine until the end of the tank. The yoke on the pitch-slider decided to come unscrewed! Lost tail control...again! Managed to hit throttle hold and land safely this time. A little thread lock and all set!

personally i have not tried 713's yet but one of my mates flies with them and the bite they have is insane!
only had 2 short flights on the mavs (wide chord) so far and they have ALOT more bite than the 690 radix fbl blades, i could be very stupid with radix blades but had to fly the mavs properly, non bobcat driving

hopefully i can get some more flights on mine soon but the weather is not being kind of late, rain and wind make life fun.

once i get some proper flights on the mavrikks ill let you know how i find them.

I might look into getting a set of Mav's and Edge blades at IRCHA. I would interested in seeing how long auto's can be done with the Mav wide cords. I love 2 minute autos!

I can say the 710fbl Mav's are my favorite. The edges seem to have a bit softer feel. The radix felt really too soft to me.

Thanks...maybe I'll buy the Mav's first, go out and test fly them. If I like them. I'll stick with them.

Check they will fold back when installed. I have 3 brands of blade that would not fit without grinding down. I am told Edge blades will fit.

The Mavvs will fit but the spindle bolts leave a small dent on the leading edge near the root. I mean very small dent too

Thanks gotnoclue! I'll keep that in mind when I get to IRCHA.

This last Saturday, I went to Al's hobby shop fun fly in St. Charles, Chicago, IL. The fun fly was Friday and Saturday, and it was a blast! I took my Trex 700 and my Rave. I wanted to "ring-out" the Trex, then have fun with the Rave. As it turned out, on the second flight with the Trex 700, the tail quit responding!

I wasn't sure what was going on, so I landed and waited a few seconds for the blades to spool down while walking to my heli. Then I tried moving the tail and wouldn't you know it...the dang thing was working! So I'm not sure what was going on. I decided to ground that heli, didn't want something wrong to happen at a fun fly. I'll check into it later...at home. It seems like trying to go over the 300 mark, the more something goes wrong!

So it was the Rave's turn. I had just installed the "new" tail hub from CY enterprise the day before, Friday night, but didn't test fly it.

At the fun fly...I was the only person with a Rave! My Rave got a lot of looks and comments. Everyone like it, I even heard a couple of guys saying "Hey, look dude...there it is! That's the Rave!" I tried to talk to them, but they moved off as if I was chasing them off...I wanted to show them my heli, even take the canopy off and let them see "under the hood".

Well, I demo'd the Rave the best that I could, 3D, some FAI style flying, big air flying, etc., it was a big hit! several pilots gathered around when I finished the 3rd flight to answer "20" questions about it. A couple of the guys there were in the process of building a Rave 90N ENV FBL, and we were comparing notes on setup and programming.

All-in-all it was a great day and a great time! Not to mention excellent food on Saturday night! I will defiantly return next year.:
D

And...after reading the post from Curtis about the new tail hubs...and before I attempt any more flight with my Rave, I will change out the new hub...again! I just got this bird back together, I don't want to have it break again...well until after IRCHA.
