Need your opinions guys
I've been battling an issue with my 450 Pro for more than a month and it's driving me crazy.

My left hand piro speed suddenly slowed to a crawl. I had made no programming or mechanical changes since flying it the weekend before. The right hand is fast and the left hand is SUPER slow. I bumped up the rudder end points. No change. I've swapped out the servo from a friends 450 and it acted the same. I've updated the firmware in my Spartan DS760 gyro and checked it out with the diagnostic program. No change. I re-installed the original Align 780 and the piro problem went away but the tail wag was too unbearable (that's the reason I went to the Spartan). I actually swapped the two gyros in and out at least three times and had the same results. Next I borrowed another Spartan DS760 from a friend, updated the firmware, and installed that one. SAME PROBLEM. Next I replaced the gears and bearings in the tail. No dice. That got me wondering about the model in the radio being corrupted so I programmed a new model and bound the receiver to that one. No change.

NOW I've got a couple of local guys telling me it's my SPEKTRUM radio. One guy said he's see this before and that's why they all use Futaba.

Has anyone ever heard of something like this???

Thanks guys.

fwiw..

Absolutely not the radio system.....
I'd check, if you haven't, that the servo didn't slide on the boom...that is, be certain the servo moves the linkage to the mechanical stops both ways.....The fact that the right is fast indicates the t/r has enough grunt...something is off in the travel to the left....

We've got too many local flyers using Spektrum without issues for this to be a pure radio issue....

John.

Same OLD BS.... Ford vs Chevy
They are both electronic pieces of equipment and they both can fail... nuf said??

BUT... (and I fly JR/Spectrum) you might want to try another rx to see if something didn't go wrong there???? And if that doesn't do it then I would send the tx in for service with a copy of you post...

It does sound as if it is radio related since you have made so many changes to the gyro/tail servo to count them out!!!!

Good Luck, Stan

Update.
I just installed the receiver from my 600N and still have the problem.
If it was the radio you would think it would affect the 600 also but I've been flying that with no problems.

This has really got me baffled.

It sure sounds like it is not the radio. Don't listen to the "fanboy" futaba folks and try to locate the mechanical problem on the heli.

Thanks Gary. I have a hard time believing it's the radio too but I'm certainly no expert.

Everything is working great mechanically. The tail is set up correctly and I get full deflection of the tail when I yaw the heli by hand.

I just don't know what else to try.

When you move the rudder stick what does the servo diagnostic screen do?Part 107.

The rudder numbers are 1742 left stick and 1111 right stick.

John at Spartan also explained to me how to check the output of the gyro sensor by twisting the gyro by hand and noting the numbers in the diagnostic screen. The numbers appear to be where they should be.

Remember I have this problem with TWO different DS760s but yet NOT with my Align 780.

Too darn weird.

I keep thinking I'm missing something real simple but man, I just don't know what it is.

My radio is a Dx7 but I'm getting these numbers from the diagnostic screen for the Spartan gyro.

Oops, I just noticed that you asked about the numbers on the SERVO diagnostic screen. Did you mean GYRO diagnostic screen?

I wanted the numbers from the servo screen in the TX but the ones you posted earlier look like pulse widths which look asymmetrical to me. Assuming that the normal pulsewidth is 1500us for center pulse, what I'm seeing is 1742 for the left stick and 1111 for the right stick which looks a little out of whack. Look at the servo screen in the TX and move the rudder stick to make sure that you have the same rudder deflection in both directions.

Bud! You're right. When I look at the rudder deflection on my Dx7 screen the left deflection is quite a bit less than the right!

What did I do to cause that?

You should not have any sub trim in the rudder channel... sounds like maybe you have hit on something????

But according to Finless Bob you CAN have sub trim on the rudder. I've heard him say it in his videos. That's why I didn't suspect this.

Hmmmmmmmmm..........

I'll definitely be digging into this tomorrow night and let you guys know what I find out.

Thanks gang!!!

Okay! I want names, addresses, and beer preferences!
I'm gonna send everyone on this thread a 6-pack!

LOL

Rudder sub-trim it is! I spun the horn around on the rudder servo to a better location closer to 90° without any sub trim, cranked up the rudder end points, and the thing spins like a demon.

Wow, according to Finless Bob sub trim on the rudder is okay but not from what I just learned. What confuses me is I've had the sub trim since I built the heli last summer and never noticed a problem until recently. I must be getting senile in my old age!

THANKS GUYS!
