Align ESC 100 failure and prevention
stanley,

You may be a victim of a short across the motor output wires.

After you read and view the following information check your ESC to see if the fire started at the motor solder joints.

Align RCE-BL100 cause of failure

Take the time to view at least the last 2 posts on this thread: https://rc.runryder.com/t558508p1/

Unveiled: Why Align ESC's burn up
A German guy recently experienced a burn up of his Align RCE-BL100, too.

He got another one and disassembled it to find a possible reason in the design. And he found it.

He found out that the aluminium case is separated into four parts, two small side frames and two larger covers, one of them with the heatsink on top.

Now it comes: The four aluminium frames are held together by the shrink tube, only!!! So, due to heat and vibrations, this covering shrink tube will extend/move of course over time and with it, the aluminium cover will slightly move, too. As soon as the frame moves about 1 - 2mm towards the three soldered contacts - boooom, there you have your short circuit and the fire...

See the movie (in german):

I fixed my ESC100's by adding epoxy over the solder joints. Never looked back.

Good luck
This hobby is WAY too expensive!!

MY 600 didn't like this esc either I just went out and bought another brand rather than take the risk of losing my heli.

I fried a 100A Align ESC on my 600 once also. I went with the Scorpion 120A and never had problems. While you're at it though, I would recommend just getting a HV ESC and lower kV motor for upgrading to 12S, it makes the 600 a whole different machine. 6S really is not enough power for the 600 IMO, unless you like puffing up batteries.CITIZEN#005 - MD Helicopters, Xpert Servos, Scorpion Power, OptiPower
