T-REX 450 › 450pro... Tail wag issue. I'm stumped

I have a bad fast tail wag, and I'm stumped.

I already tried to set up lots of delay in the GP780, and lower the gain in my Futaba 7C.

There's no mechanical slop, or vibrations. Is there anything besides the gain and delay that can be throwing me off? Also, I have around 3 or 4 clicks on the rudder trim... will that effect the initializing of the gyro at start-up?

Thanks!

I had some Hyperion Blades on my tail. The fit real loose. Ended up putting shims to tighten them in holder.

Thanks,

Just now found the problem. Didn't set the delay correctly in the GP780.

You shouldn't have any rudder trim on. Why have you got rudder trim on?

60% of the time, it works every time!

Also remove the main blades and make sure the tail doesnt bind under high rpm by manually adjusting pitch, be careful though the tail blades will bite back, I used a board and couple clamps and gently tied it down, i found a radial bearing that was binding and replaced it and now works great ! The 250 has had simular issues. Good luck !

I'd check bearings also.

I've solved (or at least helped) several tail issues by replacing the tail push rod with a CF rod. This eliminates the bending the stock rod can get and also eliminates the guide which can be a source of drag. I don't like this setup on bigger heli's but the 250 and 450 size seems to work well with a CF pushrod for me. This doesn't usually solve a fast wag issue but a bendy control rod can make it worse.

Fast wag is either a mechanical gain, gyro gain or something is sticking mechanically.

That is another item to note. Which servo and how far out is the ball link on the servo horn?

setting up the tail mechanically, the servo horn should be at 90, the tail slider bellcrank at 90. absolutely, no trim. once you get this, set your rate mode to around 32 and hover the heli, if the tail drifts right, move the servo forward on the boom, a little at a time till you get it in a stable flight. then set your hh mode to around 70, hover, if tail wag, back off 1 - 2 clicks, till wag is gone. Also, that 780 gyro is prone to vibrations, pad it better, or move it to the front somewhere, where there isn't too much vibrations. Hope this helps.

The 450 Pro servo is not mounted on the boom and cannot be adjusted back and forth. Have to adjust the linkage and servo travel.
