Can someone please point me in the right direction (or provide instructions) for getting my 5d mkii footage into an .avi file that VirtualDub / Deshaker will work with?? I have tried a couple different .mov to .avi converters to no avail. I used MPEG StreamClip, and used the h.264 codec, but then windows won't open that file...nor will Virtual Dub.

I tried AVISynth and this script: directshowsource("C:\Users\Colin\Desktop\MVI_2849.mov"

But when I try to open that in Virtual Dub, I get this error: DirectShowSource could not open the file...then lots more stuff about it not being a readable movie type. I would take a screen shot, but I'm in my windows boot camp and don't know how to take a small screenshot in windows.

Can someone please walk me through converting my 5d's mov files into avi files that VirtualDub can read?? I would be SOOO appreciative...pulling my hair out!!!

Thanks guys!

Hi Colin,

You can import .MOV files directly into Virtual Dub with a rather new "free" plug in that is available. Just do a search for "mov plug in for virtual dub". It will only export AVI files though and they are huge so you still need something to convert the files into something usefull.

So that's all there is to it! That easy!! Just find someone who knows what they are talking about...thank you so much!

BTW, for anyone else doing this, the plugin can be found here: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Virtualdub and you have to change the video mode to "3" in the .ini file.

Thanks Wayne!

HELP ! No matter what I do my output video has the white arrows on it and looks like the first pass.

My workflow- Import avi file into virtualdub add deshaker pass1 . Click ok run video analysis pass. Vdub then starts deshaking with the right pane (output video) with the white and red arrows. When thats done I hit video filters, deshaker pass 2 and then hit ok.
I then hit "save as avi" and I get a video that has the arrows on it.ame thing I see when I do the first and second pass

Should I choose "export " ?

It looks much more stable, but I have a workflow problem

Sounds like you're using the older version of VirtualDub...have you confirmed VirtualDub and Deshaker are both the newest versions?

I only have one video display window...and I had to click the "play to output" button for pass one, then adjust settings for pass two, then rewind to first frame, then "save to avi" (make sure you choose a compression codec)...uncompressed my 13 second clip was over 2GB...
