I am thinking of getting an electric heli. I have been partial to Hirobo so the Lepton comes to mind. Other than the pink decals I dont know of any flaws of this bird. Is it still considered current as far as parts availability? How does it stack up to the capabilities of some of the other brand helis, I guess tracking, pitch ranges, those sort of characteristics. Is this old engineering, technology? Does Hirobo have plans to release a new electric heli any time soon?

I have been also thinking of converting my SDX but not sure if I want to do that.

Thanks,
Howard

I have a Lepton and it is best for sport flying and mild 3D. Not for hardcore 3D due to the older head design. My is a 6 cells set up and I love it. You must use the 70mm KBDD blades on the tail.

Maybe you could wait and see what the new product Hirobo will be releasing at the Shizuoka Hobby Fair next month.

IMO the Lepton is still a real good heli. You will have to use bigger tail blade. I also use the smaller tail rotor pulley of the HDX-500 (1 tooth is removed so you get 1:4.3 instead of 1:4).

I also have a bigger washout base (twice thick and with a Delrin insert). And some reinforcement parts from mjp carbon.

I am not a fan of the 27.00 main shaft for such a small heli.

Although Hirobo undoubtedly makes good equipment, this is a fairly dated design with little updating over the years. The stock tail setup with a 4.0:1 ratio is fairly weak for anything demanding, as evidenced by the comments above on what people are doing to try to improve tail authority. Parts are somewhat expensive, including the magnesium frame floorplate. I would suggest you look into other 500 size helis and compare. If you decide on a Lepton, go into it with your eyes wide open with regard to tail authority.

I would buy a used Lepton with all the mods done if it was me, I think mine is good for 3D, plenty powerful and quick on 6s.
