One issue with this video:

The officer needs to think a little bit about basic traffic norms regarding spacing (ie - one car length for every 10 MPH or something near that - at least when I last went through driver's training). Following that closely to someone without lights/sirens on is just as unsafe for him to do as it is for one of us. Regardless if he is "trying to prove a point" or not - he possibly endangered all the cars in that area by following that close for so long without hitting the sirens.

The driver could be one of those nervous types that was basically focused on wondering why the cop was a foot from the bumper with no lights/sirens on, therefore not focusing on the road ahead. I do like that he pulled the person to the slow lane then went back on his merry way, that was brilliantly performed but, he should have just done that from the start instead of playing "bumper chicken" with someone that may not react safely

But, to the point, it is correct that a slower driving vehicle needs to move to the right lane in any multi-lane roadway. It really helps traffic flow properly.

Listen to the Audio - Their alway's may be a bigger picture.
Gal mention's to the Smart AZZ : "Don't get to close to the squad - you don' t have a stamp" . Either their buggy isn't registered, or out of date tag's. Most likely no insurance either. ?? and who's got the moral philosophy.

I once got a 45mph ticket in a 70mph. Had no idea I was going so slow -

Once I explained to the Trooper what had happened in my day - we both almost had to be scooped up off our knee''s It involved the death of a small child.

Like I say : Their may always be a bigger picture.

What's even more annoying is when I'm doing 70 in the left lane on a 55-60mph section and some prick rides my ass, I move over to let him by and he just sits there or speeds up MAYBE 1 MPH. 9 times out of 10 the guy who's in a "hurry" really isn't, he just wants to be in front and sits there having a hissy fit until he gets his way.

I have no problem getting out of the way or not blocking the hammer lane but these pricks who think it's their lane can go F themselves.

Next time your on your daily commute do the speed limit one day and time yourself, the next day drive like you normally do and see how much time you save. Its not much if any and when you figure in the extra cost of gas you'll find out how expensive those extra two minutes you saved actually cost you, then multiply it out for the entire year.

If everyone would just do around five over the limit, get in line and cruise there would be no issues but for some reason its a huge hit to peoples fragile ego to sit in "second" place.

There should always be a lane open for a Fire truck,EMT,And a Trooper. In there Line of work any amount of time waisted getting to the seen could cost some ones life. Any one on the road should be watching there ass as well as there life and right. Not just when they are going to change a lane but at all times. Just imagine all the Gas that would be saved if we never had to slow down and then get back up to speed.

Great post Sun Nuclear. Too many drivers are busting there azz to get there first. They scream at slow pokes in their way and at people only driving 10 mph above the speed limit in the passing lane.

I agree with "keep right except to pass" except that doesn't work in a heavy traffic urban environment. Besides I might have a good reason to be in the left lane such as an upcoming exit on the left.

In Atlanta, you could be doing 100 in the left lane and some jerk would be on your bumper flashing his effin lights.

Leave earlier. Get off my ass!

I feel your pain. I was a firefighter/EMT on a deptment about 10 miles from Michigan International Speedway on U.S. 12. Never enjoyed the races much as it was always a sad experience to pick up the pieces once someone who had been drinking tried to mimic what they had seen on the track that day. There were times when you would just walk away numb from it. I finally walked away from the dept as I felt that I just couldn't do it anymore.

Don't try that on I-5 on the west coast! That road is eat or be eaten!

"keep right except to pass"
We have signs in Cheeseland that say "Slower traffic stay right".
Except that no one considers themselves slower trafic.

FIBS are actually the best drivers. They drive like they are possesed but generally will not camp out in the left lane.

MN drivers: Love to left lane camp, it is their Scandinavian passive-aggressive heritage.

WI drivers: Mass confusion on four way stops: too polite to just go already

You won't find me in the fast lane except to pass...ever. But I do somehow manage to pess off other drivers with my driving habits.

These habits involve setting my cruise control AT the speed limit when traffic is moving well. It works for me cause I dont have to worry about rear ending anyone. Plenty of room to stop if there is a hard stop ahead on the highway.

Now when traffic is not moving well, I just hang back from the guy ahead of me (5-8 car lengths) so I don't have to stay on the gas and brakes all the time. I hate stop and go, so I just hang back.

Heck I even conspire with truckers via CB radio when traffic is stop-n-go to, you guessed it, hold up traffic to maintain a few car lengths between us and the stop-n-go going on ahead of us. Honking, cussing, flashing lights ensue, and we'll even get folks passing us on the emergency lanes so they can get 75 or 100 foot ahead of us. A few times even had a few of these emergency lane hot-rods get pulled over by the fuzz as soon as they passed. But no worries. Smooth sailing here. Me in no hurry.

The video is great. Nice move by the police.

That's another annoying thing. When people deputize themselves and start policing traffic the way they think it should be. If you guys want to be traffic cops than do the training and get a badge. Nobody else knows the game you are playing, they probably think you are part of the problem.

Hehe,

I knew this would be a thorn in somebody's side, but that's how I roll...yo.

Call it policing or whatever, I'm in no hurry, I save my brakes, and increase my mpg, even if it is slightly. Smooth sailin!

Yes acting like an idiot will be a thorn in someone's side. Just because you are or are not in a hurry doesn't give you special privileges to play games in traffic. And that is all you are doing. You aren't helping anyone. You may in fact be creating more risks and problems. I see it all the time. And if I ever witness an accident that I think was even indirectly related to some self appointed traffic tool then I'd turn them in. I've nearly rear ended a car, as did several others, because some such jerk decided all traffic should merge behind him instead of 'cut' in front of him. He was a half mile from where the actual lanes merged. So he stuck his truck's ass way out in the other lane. But this genius didn't take into account that he started his little game just over a hill. Nor seemed to understand the distance it can take to absorb other lanes of traffic. So yes, idiots are a thorn no matter how self righteous they are.

Jose is actually driving properly. The major cause of slow traffic when it is very heavy is the accordian effect caused by people following too closely and having to slam on the brakes. If everyone would follow at the proper distance, there would be a lot fewer accidents to back up traffic and traffic would flow more freely.

And it saves wear and tear on your vehicle. Chill out and try it some time.

And if you rear end someone, you get the ticket for driving too fast for conditions.

Well bless yer heart rcjon and thanks.

Havoc,

You did read my post above right? Stop n go traffic is the time when I do this? Why should I do the stop n go thing and hassle my brakes and lower my mpg when I can just hang back and take it easy next to a semi truck keeping a reasonable distance between us and the vehicles ahead of us?

You are entitled to your opinion, call someone (me possibly) an idiot for doing this, but I refuse to do the stop n go thing. Really don't see how this is causing a problem. I'm rolln steady. Why would that cause a problem? Rolln steady and not slamming on by brakes is gonna cause someone to rear end me or someone else behind me? Me think not.

Yeah agreed that sounds like an idiot. Kinda different circumstances from what I'm talkin about. But you won't b happy with that so just stay mad and I'll keep rolln steady.

Btw, I'll be in the blue 04 F150 with a CB whip antenna on the bumper cruzin down the Borman Expy next to a semi rig in rush hour traffic about 5-8 car lengths behind the stop n go "idiots" Monday thru Friday. Be sure to wave as you pass us up in the emergency lane.

No kidding, but when those conditions are artificially created on an interstate I wouldn't be the only one with a ticket.

But maybe I did misread Jose and his "conspire" comments. If it is merely slowing down then that would be ok. I had in mind that idiotic behavior of swerving or sticking your ass out in the next lane to impede traffic.

Maybe we got a misunderstanding here on the "conspire" thing. I ONLY do this when it is already stop-n-go traffic. Not doing it to CAUSE a stop n go situation mind you....

I believe it is poor driving ability and/or inattentive driving more than following too closely. People brake more than is necessary and slow down slightly more than the car in front of them did. 20 cars back traffic comes to a complete stop. And it only takes one to start it all. Won't be long now before they take the gas pedal away from us on congested freeways and cars follow each other automatically at speeds and distances set by measured volume.
