My personal experience with here versus Ebay is that things on Ebay are thinly traded and fees are high. There might not even be any bids until the last hour of a seven day listing. On RR, if you have your item listed realistically it will sell in 24 hours or a day or two longer.

I still say prices should be all inclusive. Yes, I'll pay itemized taxes and shipping from an online store. Prices here are more like selling to a friend, it should be an all up price.

I still maintain that if a item listing says Pay Pal only, it does not hurt to ask if they will take a PO Money Order. I have asked this and quite a few times the seller yes...sure. Holds the item, I send a money order by Priority Mail.

I used to do a lot of selling on Ebay. I have a 100% perfect feedback. I no longer sell on Ebay due to their rules Pay Pal only. Yet, I still buy a lot on ebay. I send the seller a email asking if they will accept a MO. I have NEVER been turned down. When a person only will accept Pay Pal, they immediatelly limit the number of buyers that would/could buy.

I will continue to ask if a seller will accept a MO, it work for me. If a seller gets upset about my MO question, Oh Well, they will get over it LOL

True. USPS Money Orders have worked well for me over the years even though I use Paypal from time to time as well. I can't understand why it is such a problem for some people.

As a buyer I choose not to pay with a MO as there is no protection for you once it is in the mail box. At least PP will give you some protection.

I agree that you're protected through those transactions but some people here don't use Paypal. I have experienced that as a buyer and seller.

Being a part of this hobby and not having a Paypal account is ridiculous.
Not just here but EVERYWHERE online.
Paypal makes it simpler and easier on all parties.

If a listing says Paypal Only...how is it you think it's alright to ask about any other means of payment?
A bit presumptuous.Don't ya think?
Why are you entitled to special treatment?

I completely ignore most requests like that.
They knew the answer before the question was asked.

Asking that an item be shipped at the same time as a MO is almost sure to be a scam.

And MONEYGRAMS...I will burn those when they get here and let the sender worry about getting his money back.
I have never had so much trouble as getting a POS Moneygram cashed.

I think it would be fair to say, if you buy/sell/trade within this hobby you really should have Paypal. It speeds everything up for everyone and makes dealing globally so easy.

a) send me a check or money order for $85
b) send me paypal as a standard payment for $85 plus 3% and I round to the next dollar as generally they take some more change, or
c) send me paypal as a personal gift or money owed for $85.
B and C are direct violations of the PP service agreement, and if someone takes exception to it, you can get your PP account jacked.

It's blatantly clear in the PP contract - you *CANNOT* charge more for an item simply because you use PP, and apparently a lot of folks are either not capable of comprehending this, or just plain can't read . . . .

Hmmm . . . and if I get bored, I can make a sport out of reporting folks who can't get this right . . . . maybe if I get a really slow day one day . . . . :-) :-)

Mc is 100% correct. Paypal or credit card is the only way in this hobby when it comes to private sale. also to ask a buyer to send payment as gift is a red flag in my book. Anyone who does so has no protection from being ripped off by the seller... you sent the money as a "gift" , paying as "goods" or "services" protect you the buyer from fraud. If its the paypal fees the seller is worried about, include that in the asking price to cover it.

Hey Mckrackin! remember that servo I bought from you two years ago? well it don't work anymore,, I want my money back LOL!

Prove it.
If I include Paypal fees in the price or adjust the price of a private sale, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Start your BS reporting with me.
You'll see a tremendous waste of your time and I will see nothing.

When I sell something, I figure what I would liketo get for it and tack on a couple of bucks for shipping & Pay-Pal fees. The buyer knows the price and that is that. I don't have to try and calculate shipping. If it is a large item, I may add a little extra to the price to cover it. It just makes sense to me.

Paypals rule
4.5 No Surcharges. You agree that you will not impose a surcharge or any other fee for accepting PayPal as a payment method. You may charge a handling fee in connection with the sale of goods or services, as long as the handling fee does not operate as a surcharge and is not higher than the handling fee you charge for non-PayPal transactions.
It's worded vague enough to work with.
If you take Paypal only, there's no way to break a rule.
The only way you can violate the rule is to accept other methods of payment for a different price.

The funny part is,I would charge more for a non-paypal payment

I just look at Paypal as the cost of selling something online. If I can't get a price I can live with when considering what I want for the item including any eBay or Paypal fees, I won't sell it. I generally don't sell my stuff anyhow. I never ask additional money for fees or whatever and when someone breaks that out seperately on something they are trying to sell, I usually pass on the item for sale.

From the PayPal user agreement:

"4.5 No Surcharges. You agree that you will not impose a surcharge or any other fee for accepting PayPal as a payment method. You may charge a handling fee in connection with the sale of goods or services, as long as the handling fee does not operate as a surcharge and is not higher than the handling fee you charge for non-PayPal transactions."

Maybe I'm gifted, but to me that is absolutely without a doubt stating that you can't charge any more to take PayPal than not to, or you are in violation of the UA . . . .
