Hello all, I've purchased RF 5.5 upgrade from Tower, and have been unable to install it. It locks up the computer giving the blue screen error "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" and "STOP:0X0000000A". My computer is a Gateway MP8708 with 2CPU @ 2 GHZ and 2Ghz Ram, running Windows XP Media Center Edition, Service Pack 3. From my research, I have learned that this error is usually caused by an out of date driver. Have also talked to Great Planes tech support several times and they think the same thing. Have also verified that the install DVD is good by trying it on another PC running XP and it loads and begins to install. On mine, once you insert the disk and it begins to spin up, after less than 10 seconds it halts the computer. I also have installed RF3.5 about 2 years ago which operates as advertised. Am running Norton antivirus and have deactivated it which didn't fix the problem. Running in Safe mode didn't fix the problem. So I'm at the point of trying to figure out which driver may be the problem or how many drivers may be out of date. I used Device Mgr to look at the drivers and some have dates from 07 or earlier, which the Gateway site has later versions. I've downloaded one of these, but am reluctant to install it because it may not fix the problem or may screw up something else. This computer was purchased 2/07 and has worked great ever since. The CD/DVD drive has always worked properly. I also tried plugging in a USB CD/DVD drive and got the same error. So now I'm starting to look at purchasing driver update software on the net, but don't know who to trust with my money. I haven't recently installed any new software or driver that can be "rolled back" or uninstalled. I've seen some posts about analyzing memory dumps or updating registry files, but I'm not anxious to jump into this level if I don't have. From what I've seen on the net, no one else has experienced this problem with RF! THERE MUST BE SOMEONE WHO HAS AND CAN HELP! So I'm gonna copy this post and paste it into other sites like Run Ryder for help. I've lost all of my patience, and may just send it back to tower. Thanks for all responses. Rich

Well for 1.. There is no need what so ever to buy "driver update software". That stuff is just trash and not worth the money. Especially when you can do the same thing yourself.

The driver(s) that are most likely too out of date would be video and sound as well as DirectX. It also could mean that your video card isn't up to snuff even though it's from 2007. A lot of pre-built PC's have really crappy video cards that are built into the main board of the PC. These also tend to get their memory from your RAM.

Anyway, I see you've already sent it back so I'll stop here. Sorry it didn't work out for you and wish I could have helped before you sent it back.
