As someone else mentioned, don't cheat yourself by taking some silly one or two day "certification" course. Take a real, full accredited course near home so you can get more in depth training and have time to digest what you have learned between lessons. My girlfriend got certified and they took it easy on her. I guess cute and big boobs actually worked against her for once. It was a full PADI course but they let her sort of slide through. She was ill prepared and was never comfortable in open water. Now she doesn't like scuba and will probably not dive much if ever again. Personally, I was amazed they certified her. She was definitely not ready. Get good training, make them push you a little and work through the rough spots. In the long run you will really benefit.

If you haven't seen my last post, check it out. It's a credible and reputable shop. There's too much on the line to take a quick crash course.
